On 9/15/2020 Dr Luu, the Sutter county public health Doctor stated she would start receiving waivers to go to in person education. Some of our young children are struggling with the distance learning. Children with IEP's, special needs, and other children through out the district are struggling to keep up with the online only education being provided. Their mental health is greatly suffering. There has been a rise in depression, anxiety, and emotional outburst that our children are experiencing. Younger children are at great risk, as high levels of stress and isolation can affect brain development, sometimes with irreparable long-term consequences, per weforum.org. We as a community need to re open in person learning, and allow those children that want to go back resume, and those children and families who wish to continue online only stay online. The early years of a child’s life are very important for later health and development. One of the main reasons is how fast the brain grows starting before birth and continuing into early childhood. Although the brain continues to develop and change into adulthood, the first 8 years can build a foundation for future learning, health and life success. (www.CDC.gov)
These children are our future and if they fail at education now it will be harder to catch them up to be successful later in life. Please sign the petition to get Luther Elementary and other Sutter county elementary schools to file for in-person school education.

All 3 of my children are suffering detrimental learning loss as well as severe mental, and social emotional skills and loss due to not being on campus. We’ve had to enroll in outside counseling services to address these issues since March of last school year. All 3 of my children also have IEPs to which Distance learning is different in providing accommodations, though still legal, are NOT working for academic success.
My children’s mental & emotional health is truly at stake! & I am truly considering not sending them back at all if this is to continue pass this month. I cannot go back to work & try to help 3 of my kids different ages focus on a computer most of the day. Or if I have to go to work I can’t stay on them or at least the smaller ones to stay on track this has gone on far to long at least allow them back a few days a week. My kids are wanting to be in person with teachers & classmates when they gave me such a problem to go to school before now they can’t wait! It’s time let our kids back in!
I have notice children spending more time on the computer and a lot are very young in preschool and kindergarten and there is no socialize with other kids their age. These kids need to go back so they can physically learning and I know some do better at home but there are many with IEPS and some with Special requirements of learning. Please open the schools for the students who want to do school in person.
Our kids need to go back to school. My daughter is in 2nd grade at Luther and she is frustrated and sad that she can’t go to school and that is NOT OK! She has shed many tears and I worry about her mental health and the education she is receiving. She needs to go back to school where she belongs and get a real education and NOT through distance learning! It’s time for our kids to go back to school and the classroom where they belong!
My straight A student is barely passing her classes in online learning. My children are ready to return to school, their mental well being depends on it.

My child is suffering terribly, he went to pre-k for 3 years so he knows the school setting already. It is nearly impossible for him to engage and sit still for computer based learning. I appreciate having a alternative than no school at all, but for the last couple of weeks working almost 48-60 hours a week overnights. My mental health and his are being compromised.
