Folks don't want to be railroaded into compromising education or community living standards. It will be a sinking abyss as opposed to a rising tide. They want no part of it. Who can blame them?

My 3 kids go to PS199 and we live at Lincoln Towers - we are part of a wonderful community where they all walk to school together with all their friends in the surrounding buildings. PS199 was built to meet the needs of the Lincoln towers community - it is not our fault that the city has allowed additional high rises (Trump buildings included) without having a solution nearby. It makes no sense for the children of our community to be broken particularly between the Lincoln towers building. Please stop this non sense and once and for all fix the school overcrowding by forcing new buildings to help fund new schools

Breaking up West 68th Street does not make sense: West 68th Street in its entirety is a community, and as such shares in the common elements of a community such as education, shared family responsibilities (dropping off and picking up children, and the care thereof). Moreover, P.S. 199 is within very easy walking distance for young children, whereas p.S. 191 is a very long walk over to and then down Amsterdam. Please re-consider how best to addtress the needs of P.S. 191, and keep West 68th in P.S. 199 family.

I live on W 68th and have two children, one child in PS199 and one not yet in school. As far as I understand admissions priorities, the proposed redistricting penalizes my younger child (already a member of the community) to benefit children who move into the area years from now. W 68th should stay in PS199's zone. If not, siblings of existing students should have their priority increased to maintain the community bonds built through their older siblings.

My family and I are opposed to the current school zone redistricting proposal as its boundaries tear apart a close knit neighborhood and community where block neighbors routinely share in the responsibilities of walking children to and from school together. As a parent of a child at PS 199, we are acutely aware of the overcrowding issue that confronts our school, however the current DOE proposal will not achieve its stated objectives to address overcrowding and change the schools’ demographic profile as long as new “family sized” apartments are constructed within the boundaries of 199 (current or otherwise) without providing capacity for elementary school students.

I think the rezoning is a travesty. I understand that there is an overcrowding issues at PS 199, but the way that the rezoning has been proposed favors the new development residential buildings along the Hudson riverfront at the expense of the existing buildings to the east of Broadway. Why do these new buildings get preference? They have already been given significant real estate tax incentives (reduced taxes for many years "tax abatements" and they get to be zones into PS 199 school caption?) Something stinks. Why have these newer buildings received these benefits? Is it because the developers have yet again used their money to buy their way in. Stop this injustice. One of the reasons they were granted to develop and build these buildings was their promise to fund and help build a new school, why did their promise not get fulfilled? Who in the Department of Education or the local government just allowed them to make a promise and not fulfill it, and are now able to squeeze their way into the PS 199 school district? A sheer travesty. Shame on you DOE and the local government allowing big developers to benefit at the expense of the existing community. SHAME ONE YOU!!!! Families who have been in the PS 199 school district who have been paying their real estate taxes and have built a community around this wonderful school will now be splintered at the expense of the government not holding the building developers accountable to their promises when they received permitting to build buildings along the Hudson riverfront, and have now (coerced or corrupted) squeezed the DOE to be zoned into the PS 199 school zone at the expense of the existing community getting annexed out!!! SHAME ON YOU DOE!!!

60 W 68th Street has been our home for 10 years, and we specifically moved here and later expanded our apartment into a 2-bedroom unit to be able to raise a family in the city. With a baby now on the way, it's imperative that we can send him to a high-quality public school since private school is not an option for us. While most of our friends have moved to CT or NJ over the years to raise their children in the suburbs, we love our neighborhood too much to leave! Our building is filled with families who are really committed to our community and PS 199, and the current DOE proposal does not fairly address the long-standing investments that our residents have made to make PS 199 the great school it is today.

As a former PTA oresident at 199 we parents worked hard in the early 90's to turn the school around and now that its done you are changing our cachment area to a school that is much farther awsy a d not half as good.

Splitting W68th Street is divisive and must not be permitted to happen. This proposed re-drawing of zoning lines is being done without enough thought about the community of W. 68th Street.

The DOE and the CEC3 cannot do this to our community! We are a unified street and our community benefits our children in ways the DOE hasn't factored into their arbitrary zoning lines.
