Oleta is the best mountain biking trail in south Florida. It has something to offer to everyone, from easy to hard. Because it offers this variety, it has established itself as the growing grounds for all mountain bikers who can progress from beginner to advanced riding skills. The roots are an integral part of that progression. If all the trails are smoothed out, we cheat ourselves of the ability to grow and progress. It essentially guarantees that no one in south Florida is ever going to be able to ride trails outside the state.
We have other trails in the area that cater specifically to the smooth trail riders. Not every trail must be smooth. We need variety.
From an ecological prospective, cutting roots is like taking away the foundations to your house. The tree will die or fall in even light wind conditions, starting the erotion cycle that ends with the little precious soil we have flowing away into the bay. Not good.
Please stop cutting roots, smoothing the trails and damaging the wonderful ecosystem that is Oleta River Park.

Trees need roots to anchor them. If you start hacking away at these hundred year old trees, you won't have many left after a good storm...

We're supposed to preserve nature not damage the system. These roots make Oleta the beautiful place that it is. Major liability issue too, if these trees die & fall on people. Please cease the removal of roots immediately. Thank you.

Roots are not only fun to ride on, they are an essential part of the parks ecosystem. One person wanting to ride a smooth trail is not worth killing trees!
This is a great park and we need to fight for it!
