Save OLD MAIN
Old Main
It is renowned for being the first public institution for mental health in New York State and one of the earliest in the United States. Rich historic and architectural beauty, it has the rare distinction of being named a NATIONAL HISTORIC LANDMARK. With an impressive 135 years as a forward-thinking institution of patient care, spanning from 1843 until 1978, and with its incredible and imposing facade,it holds a deep public interest.
We believe that the Old MAIN would serve the State of New York, City of Utica, and the Central New York area well educationally, economically and culturally as a mental health museum and Heritage Tourism destination. Results of this survey will be shared with government officials on all levels including tourism.
We the undersigned recognize the OLD MAIN building at the MOHAWK VALLEY PSYCHIATRIC CENTER (corner of Court & York Streets in Utica, NY) as an incredible landmark and encourage the greater public access that it rightly deserves.
