OASSIS was started for all the International Students of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church coming to Europe. This was started as an organisation in 2021 to help and connect the Students of Malankara Church community coming to Europe.

OASSIS has been an integral part of the Malankara Church and has connected 400+ students in 25 countries across Europe. This has been a remarkable step for the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church and its presence in Europe. OASSIS was started in countries where we do not have a parish and organised Holy Qurbana there.

Today we are in a difficult situation where OASSIS was asked to completely close down and merge into a different organisation. We understood that this decision is based on some personal agenda of some people in the diocese. This will affect the entire community of students who wish to work under OASSIS and support the Church.

We would like to bring to your attention the recent decision to drop the name of OASSIS and integrate it into the common name of OCYM. While we understand that organisational changes and consolidation are sometimes necessary, it is crucial to recognize the significant impact and emotional connection that OASSIS has fostered among individuals across Europe.

OASSIS has played an integral role in the lives of countless students, providing a sense of community, support, and belonging. For many, it has been a lifeline, offering help and guidance when no other avenues were available. The friendships and relationships formed through OASSIS are invaluable and have had a life changing effect on the lives of its members.

By stopping OASSIS, we risk diluting it's identity and the powerful associations it holds for individuals who have found solace and support within its network. The name represents not only an organisation but a symbol of unity, friendship, and personal growth.

We would like to continue to work this way for the Church and the diocese. We value our Students. ‘Not a single Sheep will be lost’

Long live Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church in Europe
