The Assembly finally backed off and pulled this garbage bill for good. We forced them to respect our heritage and stop attacking the traditions of our small towns. Stay vigilant because we proved that when we fight these bureaucrats they lose.

Final supporters
New York State has a rich tradition in the outdoors. With some of the highest densities of outdoorsmen and woman in the country (hunters and fishers), its no wonder derbies and other tournaments have arose.
Events such as the Naples Rainbow Trout Derby in New York's southernteir (Naples, NY), big buck contests and even woodchuck contests have been a great form of comradery and rich tradition for many years in the state.
Soon these could all become nothing but a distant memory. Introduced to the NYS Assembly on January 9th, 2019; Bill No. A00722 states...
"...It shall be UNLAWFUL for any person to organize, sponsor, conduct promote, or participate in any contest, competition, tournament, or derby where the objective of such contest or competition is to take wildlife."Such a bill, if passed, would destroy years of rich heritage, and family traditions. Not to mention the economic benefits to numerous small towns across the state.
I ask you from the deepest part of my heart to sign this petition so that generations from now may be able to enjoy, value, and cherish some of the finest memories they can, much like many of us have for years. We have one voice, but when we stand together our voice will be heard loud and clear.

The bureaucrats in Albany clearly underestimated how hard we would fight to protect our heritage. This momentum proves that they cannot just erase our traditions with a single stroke of a pen.

The basis of this, and similar, bills is a confused animal rights philosophy. Most of these contests do not take wild life, as the game animals are raised and put out for the specific purpose of the event. Please do not approve the proposed law.
I am strongly opposed to bill A00722. Keep children in nature and enjoy the outdoors. Sporting competitions are within the game limits and rules of hunting. Field trials are an American Tradition. My boys grew up with Beagles and Field Trial competitions.
Contests and derbies generate a significant amount of tourism in the Adirondacks. These events do no more harm to our natural resources than individuals do when hunting, fishing and trapping for sport and/or survival. Please do not pass this bill
Dogs are conservationists perusing and recovering game. the quality of the training of these dogs are measured in organized events. These events are steeped in tradition and have positive financial impacts to upstate towns and businesses.
Do not sign this into law this would devastate local communities that have business brought in during to derbies and tournaments Like the feed n fuel fishing derbies on the great sacondaga that bring in over 1000 fishermen for the tournaments.

This law will negatively impact three charities/community programs/resources in the Naples, NY area. Are there not greater causes and ideas that you can focus one. Who ever wrote or sponsored this bill has little or no concept of the upstate culture. :-(
