I was one of the students who learned to swim in this pool. It had a great impact on my life and I believe, with other environmental programs, shaped me into the person I am today. I have dedicated my life to saving marine animals and giving back in service to the community.

As a former lifeguard at pools and lakes for 10+ years I saw first hand the life saving benefit of knowing how to swim. Please keep this program in its entirety.

As a student who attended Nehalem elementary, some of my fondest memories come from the swim lessons we had every week. I learned to be an excellent swimmer. My husband who didn’t attend Nehalem Elementary never learned to swim until he was much older. With the amount of bodies of water we have around here, I think the swim lessons are a huge asset to have. Without, lots of children may not know how to swim and could easily drown.

My family and I grew up in the area and the nehalem swim program’s weekly lessons helped us have the skills and knowledge to practice safe swimming and take full advantage of our beautiful coast. Living in this area makes having a strong swimming foundation all the more important and I think having weekly swimming lessons was a key part to developing my water safety. Investing in the NCRD’s swimming program is investing in the safety of the children in our community.

Something that saves lives, for this generation and the next; good for physical, mental, and emotional health. Why would we not want this program?

Please keep this program as it was intended. Not everyone can afford private swim lessons but everyone needs to be able to swim.

This swim program is far more relative to the safety and well-being of the children on this coast then soccer, baseball, yoga, jujitsu, or any other activity that the NCRD hosts. However, a whole different perspective is badly needed in the management team.

We are hopeful that our children get the opportunity of weekly swim lessons like many other kids before them. We hope by signing this that the school board sees how many people value the swim program and the swimming/survival skills that the weekly lessons provide.

This program significantly impacted my life. I learned how to swim at a young age because of the weekly school lessons and I have taken those lessons and passed them on to my children. Please keep this program to help keep our future generation safe around the water.
