Best Math teacher I ever had. Being an older student returning to school after a long absence, she certainly made learning math a lot more interesting and a lot easier to grasp. My daughter currently attends Eastern and we are constantly complaining about the way teachers think that they can teach. The world needs more teachers like her!!!!

I was one of Ms. Hawes's first students, and I owe so much to her. It brings me to tears right now thinking of how much she means to me and how much of a difference she has made in my life. I'm a first generation and non-traditional college student who was afraid of going to college because I was terrible at math and thought I would fail. I took a remedial math class with Ms. Hawes back in the fall of 2008, and man did I earn that C. To this day, that is the grade I am most proud of. Ms. Hawes worked with me extensively not only with the math problems, but gave me techniques to calm down when I got frustrated. She encouraged me, and became a great friend. She is the best kind of teacher: funny, encouraging, but also challenging and strict. She doesn’t let students slack off, and makes them take responsibility for themselves. Because of all of her help, I faced my fears of math and of not being college material. I transferred from TRCC to Eastern Kentucky University in the Fall of 2010, and graduated with two Bachelor’s degrees in December 2013. I will also proudly walk this May with the completion of my Master’s Degree. Yes, I have others to thank for my success as well, but she was one of my very first cheerleaders. It deeply saddens me to hear that the current and future students of TRCC may not have the chance to have this amazing woman who is much more than a teacher to learn from. While I am unaware of all of the circumstances of this situation, I strongly encourage TRCC to reevaluate relieving Ms. Hawes from her duties as to do so would be a major disservice to TRCC. Ms. Hawes is TRCC and she amplifies what TRCC stands for, which is beyond teaching classroom material. I know I am not the only student who feels this way about Ms. Hawes, and you will not find as many students who care about most other teachers as much as we do her. KEEP MS. HAWES!!!!!!! TRCC is incredibly lucky to have her!

These are the professors I would like to encounter more of if I choose to continue wasting my money at this poor excuse of a college.

I always had a hard time understanding math until I took Mrs. Susan class. She's a great professor, she does everything possible to help her students. She deserves the opportunity to continue teaching at TRCC

Great teacher! She is able to teach students in a memorable way. TRCC is foolish to let her go. You do NOT come across many remarkable women like Ms. Hawes!

An absolutely wonderful, helpful, memorable professor.
Profewsor Hawes taught me how to LOVE math. When entering college I had the epitome of a 4th grade math level and she brought me up to college level in 2 semesters 075 and 095. She gave me confidence and tools that will aid me through my entire life, her compassion is needed in the classroom!!! She teaches individuals instead of classrooms always finding how each student learns and teaching them until they get it, no matter how long it takes!!!!!
I had Ms Hawes last semester for Algebra not only did she teach me about Algebra but she taught me to believe in myself. Ms Hawes is the type of teacher that every student needs not only does she love her job but she loves her students . Every student could benefit from her as their teacher , TRCC would be making a big mistake letting such a wonderful teacher go.

I was fortunate to have Professor Hawes last semester. I was petrified of having to take a math course. Professor Hawes encouraged me every step of the way, teaching me strategies that I am currently using in 137. I am certain that with out her guidance I would be repeating that course. It will be unfortunate if TRCC does not renew her contract. Future students will miss out on the wonderful educator that is Professor Hawes.

I had Ms. Hawes a few years back in MAT095. I have never been very good at math, but Ms. Hawes changed that. She really cares about her students and their success and that is something that is not seen enough nowadays. I have yet to have a math professor like her and I think TRCC is making a huge mistake without her.
Great teacher. Well respected.
