I loved Mr. Syman as my band teacher. And jazz band was a very fun thing to do even though I was only in it for 1 year! He is so talented and all of the kids love him!

A very poor decision on the district’s part. This is a well-established, effective band director who should be retained full time without question.

My daughter is a band student and has been positively impacted by Mr Syman. She is concerned band will not be the same if he is not present next year. Cutting Hudson’s arts programs is not the right way to go if we are attempting to help our teens with epidemic rates of mental health struggles.

Mr. Syman is an asset to Hudson Highschool and the Hudson community. I firmly believe there are creative ways to provide both band instructors (Mr. Syman and the current middle school band teacher) enough hours to receive health insurance benefits. Please do what is ethically right, not just what is fiscally beneficial in the short term. Doing so would be role modeling virtuous behavior, for middle and high school students, as well as the wider community. As a taxed citizen of Hudson with no children standing to directly benefit from doing so, I fully support the retention of both teachers on a full time contract, or at least one that provides health insurance for each.

Please be moved by a sense of what is right and honorable. Removing quality from our schools for short-term financial benefit lacks vision and true leadership.

The music depts throughout Hudson Schools produce some extraordinary young people --not necessarily future musicians (although there are many examples of that) but extraordinary, intelligent, compassionate, arts articulate, emotionally intelligent young people. It is more than a loss of 1 teacher. It is a blow to the greater music program which will impact the quality of music instruction, opportunities for students, and reputation of the district. I don't know the intricacies of district budgeting but are there truly no other options?

An amazing educator. Not only incredibly talented, but FUN. I never even had him directly as a teacher but I was ALWAYS excited to have him in marching band summer rehearsals. A seriously integral member to Hudson's education.
