Baseball has been hear for past 100 years and we have adapted to changes in all directions, from equipment, to draft signings, it's all bound to change. But would you ever expect it to change overnight, nither would I. But baseball and the Natural feel of the game is being taken away literally over a offseason.

Baseball is a very mental game, a fan says you suck from the stands, after you miss a routine pop fly, how do you react? Get nervous and snowball downhill from there? Or rise up, and prove people wrong by catching every pop up after that and hitting a 2 run homer in there face, that's how! By taking the play at the plate out of baseball you ruin the whole learning process, and natural play of the game.

let's say a runner is on 2nd and the score is 4-4 bottom of the 12th... Guy at the plate hits a basehit to right field. The runner has okay speed, and rounds third and head home, the right fielder scoops the ball throws it in to home plate..... What happends next depends on you!

Usually as we see in all the great baseball movies, the Runner rounds third and realizes the game is on the line, he dips his shoulder and attempts to collide with the catcher to make him lose the ball. For the catcher to make this happen he needs to be mentally prepared, know where he is at, and be able to get ready for a crucial hit. No lifting weights, or steroid can help the catcher here.. It's all natural ability and experience that keeps this game from ending or giving your team another chance to win..can he guard himself in time for a collision. If he holds on to the ball, he just saved his team. if he lets go, and get plowed over.. Game over.. Good game.. Do we really want to take this out of the game...?

Lets talk about the runners, what happens if we do change this rule? The runner slides in? Turns around..? Slows down speed at third because he is fearfull of getting suspeded for a accidental collision? If he slides he legs might get jammed up in catchers gear, Thus twisting a ankle or hurting his legs, if he turns around its a pickle play, which almost always ends in faliure in the majors. if he slows downat third he might not get the chance to score at all..?

I do understand catchers and there fear of plays at the plate, They must stop runs from being scored, by being a last resort defender..but this is the reason they can they can hit .250 and still be in the majors and not some recreational league in your local neighborhood,it why people like you and me look up to catchers and there position they play.. It is the hardest position in baseball For a reason. It's Why you can't be a catcher for 20 years straight and not have knee problems.. Hence why catchers are easily accepted as great catchers for hit .280 career.....

Catchers have a very phycially and mentally demanding job,Yes we know. They risk permenant injury, from concussions, shoulder injuries Ect.. But thats baseball! I play baseball, I even pay to play the sport! No pay, or medical staff around. I was hit by a faceball in the face knocking out my left front tooth, and sending my top teeth into my bottom lip. Baseball could have won that day, but instead I went to the hospital, paid 1,800 for stiches and new tooth, and went back out for the double header game. Of course my teammates did not allow me to play, but it s the point it's baseball! Also, the mental part that got me was thinking about going up to plate against the same guy, or going up to the plate period.. I was scared crapless.. Instead of running away and not playing, or saying Im hurt I can't play this year anymore! I rested a week and played with no face guard or anything, hitting 4-6 in my next two games. I Got over the fear of getting hit by a baseball, learned how to turn my back to a pitch, and got back on the horse, you know why? Because I love this sport. Willing to risk money, pain, mental illness,( concussions) all for one thing.. This sport we love called Baseball!

With this all said the point I'm trying to make is, baseball cannot change over a offseason with a sport that's been hear more than a 100 years. It has nothing to do with being old school, it's just saying, there is a reason not any geek of the street can play baseball. you have to learn from your mistakes, as buster posey has and other great catchers. If were going to change this rule it has to be in small doses, Not a full glass at a time. First start with collisions up to a certain distance, then better catchers gear and protection. Thats how to start a change..Remember thanking away plays at the plate Changes how we train our future baseball players. Signing below will save the way our game is played in the future, making mlb find more efficient ways of protecting the catcher instead of changing baseball and it's natural instinct of the game.. Thank you! Save the play at the plate!
