Dear Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, California State Senator Leland Yee,California Attorney General Kamala D. Harris,San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee,U.S. Attorney Melinda Haag;Shambhala Healing Center is a legally permitted, not-for-profit, taxpaying medical cannabis dispensary, which has broken no regulations set forth by the state of California or city of San Francisco.Shambhala Healing Center’s landlord has been threatened with criminal prosecution, imprisonment, fines, and/or forfeiture of assets if Shambhala continues providing medical cannabis to verified patients.These threats are based on federal laws against cannabis and, in part, Shambhala Healing Center’s proximity to the Jose Coronado Playground at 21st & Folsom.However: 1. The city of San Francisco does not approve permits for medical cannabis dispensaries located within 1000 feet of any educational facility that services children.2. Jose Coronado Playground is not frequented by the community due to its unsafe environment, and the Jose Coronado Playground Recreational Center has been and continues to be inactive due to budget cuts.3. During Shambhala’s 18-month permitting process, the city of San Francisco’s planning commission determined that since the Jose Coronado Playground and Recreational Center are not in use, their proximity to Shambhala Healing Center should not prevent a permit from being issued.4. Whether by car or by foot, the shortest navigable distance from Shambhala’s entrance to the Jose Coronado Playground is approximately 1600 feet.Because the Jose Coronado Playground and Recreational Center has been inactive and remains inactive, we respectfully request that the U.S. Attorney reconsider the matter, and that Shambhala Healing Center be permitted to remain open to registered members in the interim.Signed,
