We, the parents of the Marin Learning Center and Manzanita Center, community members and concerned Marin County Citizens are deeply concerned about the news that the Marin City Community Development Corporation (CDC) is in the process of selling the Marin Learning Center property.

We are concerned that the sale will result in the immediate loss of child care for the Marin Learning Center and Manzanita parents who depend on care for employment and teachers (including residents of Marin City) potentially losing their jobs. In the past 10 years, Marin City has witnessed the dramatic loss of services for children 0-5. This community cannot afford to lose another program when it is well documented that early childhood education is critical to children’s success academically and socially.

We believe this is a real and serious community problem that should be addressed and solvedas a community. We urge the CDC to:

Suspend the sale of the Marin Learning Center property until community, county and education leaders come together to work out a solution. Our goal is a solution that meets the needs of the CDC, as well as the children, parents and staff of Marin Learning Center and Manzanita Center and maintains child development programs in Marin City.
