Malahide Castle and Park is a wonderful amenity and we do not want it destroyed any further!

The community does not need MORE car parking spaces - we DO need a more active community. We've hundreds of car parking spaces within an easy walk for most of the Castle and village for the community and visitors and could easily convert some of the existing parking space for greater accessibility - including public transport. As for the 'Forest Adventure' - the forested areas have been Forest Adventure areas for kids since the council took charge of the demense - we don't need the council and it's private operator to charge per adventure. FCC (who to be fair are wonderful custodians of the castle and grounds for the community) could far better invest this energy in completing development of the Casino for the Fry Model Railway. I object to this proposed devopment as it destroys the tranquility of the castle grounds and is turning part of it into a carpark which defeats then original purpose of them properly

Disgraceful that in an age of increased childhood obesity, instead of increasing the number of facilities for children to run, exercise, have fun and make friends, the council are proposing that the much used GAA pitches in Bridgefield will be taken away.

Leave this Castle as is!! I love walking in when I go to Malahide, esp in the castle area. Don't ruin it for the people of Fingal or the tourists!!

Hands off what little woodlands there is left in Malahide!!! There is already a huge area of the park allocated to the playground. It will become unrecognisable, and wreak of capitalism. Lady Rose Talbot didn't sell to a private bidder, she sold to the people through the State. Hand off our woodlands.

These proposals are not consistent with the announced intentions of the Council, insofar as these are contained in its statement of strategy for the period 2017 to 2023. Whatever about the detail of the Fingal Development Plan for that period, the planners' thinking on our cultural heritage (Chapter 10), is worth highlighting. It refers to the physical traces left in the landscape by previous generations including historic buildings, townscapes and vernacular structures. Designed landscapes such as the gardens and demesnes at Malahide Castle form part of the tangible cultural heritage of Fingal, linking the past and present. The Council recognises the importance of protecting this heritage for future generations and talks of the proper management, sensitive enhancement and/or appropriate development of this resource. Admirable sentiments.
In the past decade, the inheritance that is Malahide demesne, such as its mature trees, its hedges, its plant and animal life, its collection of buildings scattered around the estate, has not been properly managed. There is is no sustainable development. The consistent direction of development has been towards commercialisation of this public good and, with it, the primacy of the private car. The proposals currently on offer move in the same direction, crudely, not sensitively, without any longer term vision which accommodates competing environmental, cultural, physical and mental health objectives and the dictates of public financing and commercial development. If present thinking is maintained the demesne will become another sports-complex cum carpark cum shopping centre, with increments of 'development' on demand (by whom?) decided in isolation.
