Maidstone Barracks must not be closed. This is part of Kent's heritage. Maidstone does NOT need and cannot sustain further housing estates.

Since Hong Kong handover to China, Kitchner Barracks and Maidstone Barracks in Kent have been the home of the Queen's Gurkha Engineers. Kitchner was sold some time ago. If Maidstone is sold too, we will loose our spiritual home in the UK.

This move to close these barracks will affect the cohesion, vibrancy & community spirit enjoyed in Maidstone. The Nepalese are well liked & regarded in this town as are all the soldiers based there. We have long been a garrison town and are proud of the Royal Engineers, they are always welcome here.

The Gurkhas want to stay - this is their home. Let them stay - they deserve it.

The barracks has been part of Maidstone for the 20 years I have lived here and the loyal personnel working there should not be moved. As Gelen Grant states this will impact the local community both socially and have an economic impact on the town.

Please keep the barracks open, it's so important to the local community, the Nepalese are a perfect example of multicultural integration within the local community. Highly respected and appreciated by us British for their contribution to our protection for their services in our military. We have to keep these guys around. Thanks guys
