I am Headmaster of Maidstone Grammar School and oppose the closure of the Maidstone Barracks. The Nepalese Community have made Maidstone their home, and a number of their children attend my school. They are part of our community, and I feel that the closing of the barracks would affect the ethos of our school.

Closure of our barracks would be a severe blow to the town commercially and culturally. I sincerely hope that this petition will help to persuade the Government that this is an extreme measure that is backward looking and would be damaging to the life of our county town.

We cannot break up our community, of which Invicta Barracks is an integral part. THe Engineers play a vital part in all Maidstone from Schools, Sports and Community Resilience.

The Gurkha's both serving and retired have long made a strong contribution to the area and are respected members of our community. we should support them as they have us in times of strife.

Maidstone has proud military history and this would be an insult. In addition there would be huge impact on the local economy. I also assume that the land is prime for development and Maidstone can't cope with more demands on the transport system, water or schools.

If the Barracks cannot be saved - then at least the community of connected Nepalese dependent upon it should be re-housed at Government expense and kept together for the benefit of them all.

The Gurkas have become part of our area for so long. We feel that they are part of our community. Tanks have come along more frequently than our bus service. The barracks make us feel safe.

Maidstone as the County Town of Kent has and should keep its long standing working relationship with the Army. Preserve the barracks as the home of the Queen's Gurkha Engineers and 36 Royal Engineers.

These Barracks have been a part of our community for years and there is no excuse to remove them now.
Building more houses is not 'an excuse'. We are seeing 1000's houses going up all over Maidstone with absolutely no infrastructure to support it.
