Putting a parking lot to support to Sound Transit on the Island is bad enough but these clowns actually want to put it in the park!

Giving up a piece of park land (I realize the land isn't technically part of LBP) for a parking garage is not a good or appropriate solution to the P&R parking issue. That piece of land has an incredible view, is used by many all summer long, is a great place to watch the fireworks, and has much more value to the city’s residents as a piece of park land. The city should strongly consider working with WSDOT to develop a solution for a parking garage that sits on top of I-90 – another ‘lid,’ so to speak. I believe it makes much more sense to use the “non-topped” space over I-90 in the Business District for parking garages versus tearing out a piece of park land. No views would be lost, residential streets would not become more crowded around the MICEC, and noise reduction would be an additional benefit. Shame on the City Council for even considering that grassy hill as an appropriate spot for a parking garage.

If memory serves me. The residents who were upset were upset that you piled the dirt so high they could not see the view from their properties. It was later grated to a more acceptable level even though this is still not acceptable. The soccer field that was destroyed in order to pile dirt was a much more community friendly use of the space.
Is it not also true that the members of the community also offered to truck the fill away at a reduced cost to piling up the fill. Please do not belittle the residents of the community who work hard to make Mercer Island a wonderful city.

It is my understanding that a parking structure is to be built in on of the communities park. Lets take a look at the benefit to the park and the community. Oh wait there are not any. Why would the residents of Mercer Island want parking in a neighborhood that is not designed for them to use. If it was designed for them to use it would be in a usable location. This parking would not be near shopping or the downtown district that needs more parking. This parking would not be near the freeway entrance where it could accessed by commuters. This park will be too far to walk to any of these places. Nobody will park and walk up from the park to the public transportation. Since there are no redeeming features of this structure then why build it. My hunch is that money is the primary factor. Community will and open space will not be served by this structure. The only people happy to have it will be the council who will receive the money. Please take the team to listen to residents of the community and do what is right for the residents of Mercer Island. Keep the park a park not a parking spot.

luther Burbank park is one of the defining features of Mercer Island and it should not be compromised for a temporary parking solution.

I'm excited to hear that Light Rail will be coming to Bellevue but in the meantime, I am opposed to the plan to regrade Glen Sparrow Hill. NOT COOL city of Mercer Island. This park is a magical, wonderful parcel of land, beloved by Mercer Island citizens and animals alike. Tearing it down to create temporary parking space for Bellevue would be a complete shame for local residents who seek solace in this space.

The park isn't really the problem, it's just a rallying cry. I just think that the island shouldn't become the substitute P & R during the Bellevue construction. If we don't build it they won't come!!
