Under new plans from Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, the 24/7 Fire Station in Long Eaton is to close and the town is to rely on retained duty cover (On call Firefighters) This means that any Fire or emergency will have to wait an initial 5 minutes for the On call FF's to arrive at the Station whereas now, your FF's are out of the station doors in under a minute. This is also happening all around the County of Derbyshire, if there are 2 incidents in Long Eaton at the same time, the unlucky second incident will be waiting for a fire engine from Derby or Ilkeston (Also being shutdown to just on call FF's) so both will be at least 15 minutes away. However you will still be paying as much on your tax for the Fire Service for a much less effective service. Please sign this petition and pass it around so we can stop this madness and keep our families safe.
Seeing this kind of movement confirms that our town understands the danger of losing our full-time crew. My own family sleeps much better knowing those engines are ready to go in seconds rather than waiting for an on-call response.

Watching the signature count climb toward two hundred and fifty reminds me that I am not the only one terrified by these cuts to our town. We need to keep this momentum going because our families deserve better than a fifteen minute wait in an emergency. Please push this out to your neighbors tonight.

I cannot believe this has even been considered, we are strategically placed for motorway, rail and flight incidents as well as domestic fires. Keep it open!

Absolute madness. You cant just rely on on-call crews during a major emergency. Who thinks this stuff up honestly?

LONG EATON NEEDS THIS STATION. The extra response time could cost lives and i dont see how anyone thinks this is a good idea.

Ridiculous decision. We pay enough in council tax already without getting less service for it. Keep our station full time.

Five minutes is way too long when a house is burning down. My kids live here and I dont want them at risk because of some budget cut.

We are right next to the motorway and the rail line. If something big happens we need a crew ready to go immediately not waiting for someone to get to the station.
