Under new plans from Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, the 24/7 Fire Station in Long Eaton is to close and the town is to rely on retained duty cover (On call Firefighters) This means that any Fire or emergency will have to wait an initial 5 minutes for the On call FF's to arrive at the Station whereas now, your FF's are out of the station doors in under a minute. This is also happening all around the County of Derbyshire, if there are 2 incidents in Long Eaton at the same time, the unlucky second incident will be waiting for a fire engine from Derby or Ilkeston (Also being shutdown to just on call FF's) so both will be at least 15 minutes away. However you will still be paying as much on your tax for the Fire Service for a much less effective service.
