For years the council havnt wanted the land at plank lane. For years it has been there all the thick bushes with garbage on it and was completley unacsesable the horses being there have not taken up land that WAS accsesable. The rescue centre has given people better times for the rescue centre team are a good community it has encouraged kids such as my self to get off electronic devices and be out in nature. Nature is important it gives people to go on walks with dogs and other things its a calm environment . please dont build houses as it ruins the area. I am well aware that some people have their interpretations on the centre howver more people such as my family dont really have any concerns against the rescue centre. Please the people at leigh rescue centre every single helper/visitor theres ever been (and there must be at least over 200) have put so much of their time effort and money into the place and for a good cause rescuing horses. People have camped entire nights on night watch to guard theese horses thats how much people love them and want to keep the horses safe. Would you wigan council want to be known for nice council who helped the horses stay on the land and funded them. Or known for the big mean council who did all they could to tear it down and build. Because i can assure you if you help the centre than i guarantee you wont be hated. Also the short land in front of the canal at pennington flash can you imagine how horrible itd look with just concrete? Please dont be the enemy we fear you are wugan council srand by the rescue centre

Enough with buildings, we need more land to be preserved for wildlife and horses. No one else is caring for the increasing number of abandoned horses.

Wigan council haven't wanted this land for over 17 years. It was derelict and rubbish was left there. Wigan council have already passed that building will be done on the land behind common lane near the canal, against the wishes of the local people. Wigan council and its councillors aren't interested in preserving land for future generations, they just want to make Leigh a soulless housing estate.

The rescue is a brilliant place to visit especially for the local community as it brings them together.if it wasn't for the horse rescue alot more crime would of occured.there is not enough of these places around plus Judith and her family have saved these ponies and should beable to carry on doing so x

This centre does enormous benefit to our community. It has saved so many human beings from their depths of depression, some suicidal. Children with many illnesses and disabilities across the spectrum benefit greatly from caring and visiting the wildlife at plank lane and the ponies. Ponies are therapeutic and are so gentle and give so much love. This rescue centre saves the national health service a great deal of money in mental health and other services. These rescue ponies and helpers provide a much needed vital service to the public relieving hospital services. We cannot and must not lose it.

As a newcomer to the area I'd much rather see the rescue centre continue than line greedy peoples pockets.

Leigh Rescue Centre and Nature Reserve is a not-for profit, family run, charity. We aim to give people, ponies and places a second chance. We started the community project with a large settlement (aprox.£100,000) and except a few donations we run it outof our own funds. A careful note is taken of any money donated as we want everything to be done completely above board. All the family is involved at one level or another and we are passionate about what we are doing. We welcome any one who share our vision to get involved.We have started from scratch and also rent a farm, so there is plenty to do. Presently we have 22 horses ranging from small shetlands to sports horses. We always look for supporters to re-home ponies, but for obvious reasons strict.rules apply . Nothing is done for money and it is not always easy to please everyone, but seeing depressed people get hope, people decide to come of drugs, autistic children blossom, lonely people find friends and people from all backgrounds working together makes it all worth while. Not to mention of course sick horses getting well; frightened, abused horses learning to trust and bring so much joy back in to the community. There's also the peaceful mist there hangs over the marsh in the morning, the birds that sing their hearts out in the trees and the bubbling brook that the deer drink from. If it goes it will not come back. There is scarcely a green spot around here that has not or is not just about to be developed or fracked. The roads are already groaning with traffic. The council estates around are rough and full of need. Community initiatives are few and far between. We believe everyone has something to give and that ponies, nature, and working with others can be very beneficial. We are nothing special, but we hope that what little we do will make a positive difference. Help us make it a reality. We owe it to our children and all those around us.
