The area has lost many competitions. lEC is one the equestrian community used to look forward to. There is still a need for the event.

I too remember the greatness of the show....if you competed at the Prix, you "made it!" This year's show was terrible....not what the Prix was meant to be.....so sad!

Quality horse shows bring tourists to Northeast Ohio! This event could be a major draw if properly conducted, and advertised. It will return to the area more than it costs. IF LEC needs help they need to reach out to appropriate potential partners. If they want to kill the program they can be just one of several private Ohio colleges, with nothing distinctive to separate it from the crowd.

As one of the first two graduates of the Equestrian Studies program at LEC way back in 1974 I have seen the Prix de Ville in it's heyday and it saddens me to see what it has become. It also saddens me to see the Eventing program essentially disappear. When I was teaching at LEC we had 3 students participate in the NAYRC in British Columbia with 2 of them riding college owned horses!! I don't know the answer but as the old sating goes "where there is a will there is a way!" My fear that there isn't enough of a 'will' at LEC :(

I agree. I have considered going a few times but finding the information ahead is horrendous. I'd love to put it on my calendar 6+ months ahead. Also, market to Pony Club - and not just Tri-State Region.

I agree - the show needs to be refreshed. Entries have been low since the late 1990s, there used to be teams from Vermont, Minnesots, Texas, Canada, Mexico. I was a HUGE deal! Now, with other shows in Florida & elsewhere South, they have added in the Team aspect, and it's not as special anymore. By lowering the fence height & adding in the hunters, they've "dummed it down" so anyone can enter - that's great for entries, but not so great for the show itself. And advertising?? what advertising? I saw a FB post about the News-Herald article a week after the show this year! Sadly, there is no bright outlook as yet.

I believe adding a show with the Prix de Ville was a good idea but they do need to show case the Jumper classes and the Prix

I am an alum from '16.
As a student who just graduated I can tell you that this has been a topic of discussion. Sadly, no (good) changes. I loved the idea of the Gamblers choice but I trained with the LEC trainer and told her that I did not feel comfortable doing it and the team competition. She agreed and we spoke about moving it to Friday night. It was a serious idea for a while but clearly nothing was done about it.It's a bummer to see this show turn into a hunter show and I'm actually extremely shocked the director of riding was able to make that happen. Not shocked that she tried though... she always loved the hunters more and never felt she took the team competition seriously. I'm glad LEC had a winning team this year but it appears maybe the reason why is because nobody is attending anymore.

Completely agree! As a primarily hunter rider, I enjoyed the derby in years past with the unique courses and options. This years course was disappointing and the handy round had little to no options for handiness. I disliked the addition of the divisions as the day also seemed to drag on MUCH longer than should have. I understand the students are learning, but come on. Having previously done the jumpers, the stakes class and gamblers were always fun and a highlight. It draws so few teams now, to the point there were no high teams. I remember when they used to sell box seating...now there are few in attendance. It used to be a very fun show to attend. But after this years, it's hard to want to come back.

I don't know who wrote this, but I agree with it all. The organization of the show this year and catering to hunters and not jumpers is why I wasn't in attendance.
