Money for social care may free up some beds in Derriford but the A&E would be crippled due to the closure of the vital community out of hours services such as Launceston hospital. The town is growing rapidly and with many young families, the thought of having to drive almost an hour to the nearest facility with a young child is such an awful prospect. Launceston hospital also provides a facility to be with loved ones who are in their final days of life...without this facility in the local community, being surrounded by family and friends is less likely to be achievable. I echo all the comments above...especially regarding public transport links! It would be an utter travesty to lose Launceston hospital and the vital service it provides to the town and its growing population...who exactly would benefit from the closure?

Such a vital need for our rural community especially when you consider there are NO direct buses or public transport to take you to Derriford hospital which is an hours car journey away! My family and myself have been grateful to have Launceston hospital on many occasions with such great caring staff a necessity for Launceston and district which the ever growing population cannot be without!

I've know this hospital almost all my life and it's part and parcel of our town ...as our town grows we need this hospital more ...I've had children born here and 90% of my autistic sons appointments are there to make his life easier. ..you can not shut this hospital it would take upto 1 hour to go any where else and some of us do not have a car ...

My 18month old grandson went in there last week with a cut on his head , he was treated right away, glue and stitched , if it wasn't there it would mean traveling 1 hour to Derriford and sit and wait not good with a crying baby !!!

This hospital was the last place I saw my Nan, and my grandad. Had it not been there I'd not have had the opportunity to spend as much time with them before they passed away. This hospital was where my mum was placed and chose to be where she was given the best care and I could visit her as much as possible with my two small children before I lost her to cancer. The hospital is the place I have raced to with all of my three children when they've needed urgent medical care and peace of mind for me. I cannot iterate enough how important Launceston Hospital has been in my life and I dread to think of life without it and the amazing staff it employs. Another Tory tragedy.

If it wasnt for this hospital, then I could have been left without part of my foot which they were able to sew back on, due to being the closest hospital to Chillaton.

We have used this hospital a few times, with our children and my husband and have had family members and friends have to stay in the hospital, would definitely be a great loss to a ever growing town, definitely can't afford for it to be closed down

Having a hospital at this end of the County is vital. There are no direct public transport links to other Hospitals. Launceston Hospital provides beds for adults over 18 who require rehabilitation following serious illness/operations, much needed care for the elderly until being able to be placed at home with support or another safe environment and also care for the terminally ill enabling friends/relatives to be able to visit during those precious last days of their lives. The MIU unit is also SO important. IF closed it would cause added pressures at A&E in Derriford Hospital assuming of course people were able to get there. Otherwise ambulances may be called for what may be considered a trivial problem. The knock on effect would be devistating. I could go on and on........... Please do not close Launceston Hospital. Maybe we should be looking at how it can be enhanced, given the growing population within the town, instead of closing it!
