Beam Inc, parent company of the brand Kamchatka Vodka, has recently announced that they will be reformulating the once top selling vodka into what can only be described as a syrupy-like schnapps. I am not from Ohio, but a small Western New York community where Kamchatka is not just another low cost well vodka, but a choice of style. Here are some stats for the No. 1 selling liquor in Ohio: 2011 - Kamchatka - 401,148 gallons 2010 - Kamchatka - 407,277 gallons 2009 - Kamchatka - 400,787 gallons 2008 - Kamchatka - 380,465 gallons 2007 - Kamchatka - 2006 - Kamchatka - 367,511 gallons I could keep going, but I think you get the picture. Not only is this brand the number one seller year after year, but its production shows a general trend upwards. Bear in mind that this is in general liquor sales, not just Beam Inc brands. It baffles my mind that Beam Inc would take their number one selling value brand, and reformulate it into something that will utterly kill the line. What you need to do Beam Inc, is try your little experiment on your Wolfschmidt line, and leave your hottest seller to continue to grow.

I have been reviewing the historical sales data again and it remains clear that this brand holds a steady place in the market. Silence from the company has been frustrating but it only reinforces the need to keep this conversation visible until they address our concerns.

Seeing this momentum grow reminds me that the history of a brand is measured by the people who rely on it. It is clear that many communities value the consistency of Kamchatka just as much as we do in Western New York.

dont mess with a classic. kamchatka is the only stuff i buy for mixers. if you change the recipe you are gonna lose a loyal customer base for sure.

Leave it alone. People buy it because its reliable and cheap. Changing it is just a huge mistake.

THIS IS ABSOLUTE GARBAGE. Nobody wants syrupy schnapps. Kamchatka is supposed to be vodka. Stop trying to fix what isnt broken!!
