Save Japanese GCSE and A-level exams. Do not delete Japanese from GCSE and A-level exams
I have been actively teaching Japanese to secondary school children for their GCSE and A-level exams for more than 15 years. I have a strong impression that the number of students who are interested in Japanese language and culture is steadily increasing, not at all diminishing. I also teach at a university level, not only the students who decided to read Japanese at the university, but a great number of students and staff who eagerly want to learn Japanese for their future job and research purpose. Many of them have already done Japanese GCSE or A-level, and want to continue with their studies at the university. Therefore, I'm strongly against the idea of deleting Japanese from GCSE and A-level. Learning Japanese is a life changing experience for many young learners and also it leads them to a great work possibilities in the future. This country has already got an international reputation for 'bad language teaching' at the secondary level. We should try our best not to worsen the image.
