I frequently attend the Ipswich office to collect parcels if signature needed. What would be option if office closes? I would simply lobby suppliers to use other couriers.

Good reliable postal service is essential to small businesses. Closing the sorting office does not make sense when Ipswich’s small business community is growing.

Closing Commercial Road sorting office, sheer lunacy. The parcel increase & size limits soon brought a rapid change from Royal Mail when they saw the amount of business being lost. Is this going to be a similar story.

It is important that Ipswich retain this important postal service in support of the local economy and business. There is no long term saving to be made by its relocation. Think of the 'green' issues.

This is a crazy thing to do. The sorting office is always busy, and Ipswich needs its own depot as the town is growing all the time.

Service is bound to suffer if this goes ahead. Ipswich is a growing town and needs a first rate postal service. The loss of local employment is also unwelcome.

Ipswich sorting office is invaluable to the town and all the residents with an IP postcode. Other mail couriers and carriers just don't come close to the efficiency, convenience and professionalism of this service. Speaking personally, I have had one carrier insist I collect from their depot (in Chelmsford), because I wasn't home when they called (I was at work) and another 'claimed' to have tried to deliver to me at 8pm one evening while I was actually at home and on their website to try to track it!! Ipswich sorting office simply leave me a card telling me where and when I can collect (or easily arrange another delivery). This service needs to be protected at all costs. For the sake of it's customers and also for the sake of the staff who have so much invested in their jobs.

People all over the UK I send mail to comment on how quickly it arrives compared to people they recieve mail from sent from other areas. This can only be because of how good this sorting office is. We'd really notice its loss. I read so many complaints on the web about slow and missing post in other areas of the UK, we are so lucky to have an efficient service in Suffolk. If you sell on Ebay or any other online selling hub or have a mail order buisness and live in postcode areas IP1-IP33 you should be doing your bit by highlighting this issue to your customers, signing petitions and writing to the the CWU about how this WILL affect your buisness. If you buy online this will increase the time you will have to wait to recieve your items. Royal Mail is also a major employer in the town and I can see 100s of jobs being lost as another effect of closure. Please don't be flippant about this and sign the petition at the very least.

I don't want to loose my local sorting office as I don't drive. Therefore any internet parcels etc would go to local deliverers so would entail more lost income for the post office.
