SAVE INVERLEITH MEDICAL PRACTICE
An Evening News article published in February 2017 informed patients of Inverleith Medical Practice of its imminent closure in June 2017.
The article states that Rob McCulloch-Graham, Joint Director of Edinburgh Health and Social Care Partnership, said: “The GP Partners at Inverleith Medical Practice have informed us that, as a result of personal circumstances, they plan to resign from their contract with NHS Lothian this summer.”
Mr McCulloch-Graham added of Inverleigh: “A range of options for future GP care in the area are being considered and Edinburgh Health and Social Care Partnership and NHS Lothian, will be supporting the practice team to help reassure patients during this period.”
A letter was sent to the 4000 patients of Inverleith Medical Practice stating that " The GP Partners, Dr Peter Stewart & Dr Max Inwood at Inverleith Medical Practice have decided to resign from the practice due to personal circumstances and GP recruitment problems. The practice will close on Friday 30 June 2017. Please be reassured that you will not be left without access to a GP.
Edinburgh Health and Social Care Partnership, NHS Lothian and the team at the practice are working together to ensure patients continue to receive safe, effective and timely care at this time.
A range of options for future GP care in the area are being carefully considered and you will be notified once the new arrangements are in place."
The practice covers the following area:
West
South Groathill and Groathill Avenue, running North to Telford Road and Crewe toll, Crewe Road North to its junction with Boswall Parkway, East to Boswall Parkway, Grierson Road, Wardie Crescent and Granton Road heading North to Granton Square
South
Broughton Road, heading West to Eyre Place, Henderson Row, Hamilton Place, Raeburn Place, Comely Bank and Craigleith Road to its junction with South Groathill Avenue at Queensferry Road
East
Newhaven Road running South to the junction with Broughton Road
North
Lower Granton Road starting at Granton Square and running East along the seafront through Starbank Road to Newhaven Road
This would be a huge loss to our community. Please sign the petition to encourage the NHS Health Board to do their utmost to retain Inverleith Medical Practice and ensure its continuation as a practice.

The momentum behind this fight proves that the bureaucrats at NHS Lothian cannot simply shut our doors and expect us to go quietly. They take our access to healthcare for granted but they clearly underestimated how hard we are willing to push back.

Inverleith has been our family practice for nearly 30 years and the staff there have always been most professional, most attentive and given tremendous care to our 3 generations. I cannot bare to think of it not being there, can we please find a way of keeping it.
The Health Board needs to buy the surgery keep Dr Stewart there and encourage the lady doctors back into work even part time to keep it running. I know the ladies in the past have had to leave because their children want them at home which is perfectly understandable. But surely its not rocket science to be able to work this out so that it works for everyone.
This is my practice and has been my whole life and that of my family's. Once it closes I cannot see how 4,000 patients can possibly be absorbed into other local practices which are already bursting at the seams. I understand that the GPs have perfectly valid reasons for needing to give up but surely there must be some way to put in other GPs in their place?
Save Inverleith Practice! There's no way the existing practices around can absorb 4000 new patients onto their books!
I would be devastated to lose my GP Dr Max Inwood and for this practice to close would cost me dearly as it is only across the road from my flat. Please don't close!!!
very sad news. the practice has always been very responsive.
I have been a patient with this practice for almost 40 years and always experienced expert attention from very professional GPs. Closure of this vital surgery is unthinkable.

I'm very sadden to hear that the practice will close, I have a personal connection with it as it was my fathers' old practice. Dr George Cruickshank. I hope we can save it as it has a wonderful staff and excellent service.
