Save indoor tennis in Manhattan now before it is too late!!!

Physical exercise is needed in this city. We have a bunch of type A people living in little boxes and traveling underground. Please, for physical health and mental sanity, preserve the tennis courts.

I am stunned and outraged that the city of Manhattan would consider removing Sutton tennis courts from Manhattan, a safe haven for tens of thousands of New Yorkers for over four decades to come together for tennis. We have fewer and fewer community parks, recreational facilities and spaces in New York - this is a public health travesty which we cannot afford - either for our generation, or future generations of New Yorkers. Tennis facilities like Sutton bring together people of all walks of life for public good. It is not just about tennis - places like Sutton mean much more to our citizens. They represent public good - a commitment to public health, physical fitness, community building and social networking. Countless children have learned the value of hard work, self-development, physical fitness and teamwork at Sutton, and it has helped create a center for senior citizens to participate in physical fitness activities. Sutton is a place where I myself have many cherished memories -playing tennis with my father, still going strong and bringing his A game to tennis at the age of 70. We live in a nation where sedentary lifestyles have contributed to epidemics of obesity, heart disease and other health conditions and healthcare costs exceed all other nations across the world. Getting rid of public parks and tennis courts would mean robbing hardworking citizens of New York - including children and the elderly - of a valuable institution whose mission is vital - that of promoting public health through physical activity and social bonding. We plea for the city to do the responsible thing here and not get rid of Sutton tennis courts.

These courts provide healthy and AFFORDABLE recreaction for all ages and serve a broad community year round. Tennis is a hugely popular sport, and if not for the Sutton courts, tennis would be inaccessible or unaffordable for a large segment of New Yorkers. PLEASE SAVE OUR COURTS.
