Don't tear it down

I am a second generation Bearcat and hope to make my daughter and son a third generation to attend HHS. The building is what I loved as much as the faculty and staff. There has been a lot of history in those walls, such as one of the first integrated classes to graduate in Hendersonville.

I am a first generation bearcat, and I hope to have several generations follow me.

Keep HHS intact for student use...Class of 1973.

I spend some of my middle school years (Hendersonville middle school) in mobile buildings. Why is it an issue now? I love HHS, the building is what makes it the school that it is.

I just don't understand why and how this is financially a sound idea...

Yes lets please save the school.. My self and my siblings allwent there and we all graduated and my son went there and graduated, and now my adopted children hopefully get the opportunity to attend the best school around. There is so much history and memories at that school. ....

I've always been a bearcat. I went to Hendersonville elementary and middle school and I'm an alum of HHS and I now go to NCSU. A lot of people say that new is better but in some cases it's not. HHS will not be the same without the main building. That building holds so many traditions and memories for me and it would break my heart to see it be used for something else.

HHS means a lot to me as well as countless other families that have had their parents and even grandparents attend the school. It is a school filled with tradition, history, and countless great memories. I only attended the school for 2 years, but I know I wouldn't be where I am if I had attended another school. I want future students to be able to walk through the halls of HHS and to have the opportunity to perform their senior play in the auditorium filled with memories. I have a brother that will be going to high school soon and I want him to be able to experience what it's like to go to such a great school. As all bearcats say, once a bearcat is always a bearcat!!!!

I am NOT signing this petition for the purpose of requesting explanations. I'm signing it to prevail upon the Commission to REVERSE their misguided decision that disrespects the decision of the School Board, the wishes of voters, and the local history that makes Hendersonville so special. Also, to remind Commissioners how many more loyal Bearcats would show up for the protests if we didn't live so far away! Those like me may not be your voting constituents, but our family and friends living there are! When we return for visits, we support your local economy, and apparently dollars are all you understand and consider. Please respect the wishes of the community, even those of us who no longer live there. If not, I would hope that all Commission incumbents would face strong challengers in upcoming elections by those who would reverse this decision. It won't necessarily be too late for a future Commission to do the right thing, but a later reversal will be more costly and cause additional delays. But it would still be the right thing to do. HHS is more than a school, the tradition that sets it apart is in the building itself. It is in each class walking in and knowing that WWII vets walked the halls as students, that generations who experienced some of the greatest and most trying moments in US history experienced them in those halls and classes as they were happening. What you are taking away could never be replaced by new and modern.

Well put Siler! Remember those past 100 years for they are what are making the next 100 years possible. Inconvenience for a time can never outweigh instilling values in our children that hard work and dedication invested in preserving their heritage and tradition does matter.

Please save our building for future generations!

This school means a lot to my family

I never even attended HHS, but the anticipation I felt when I planned on doing so was so great. The idea of walking the halls that so many before me had walked, and being in the same building that many friends of my family had spent four years in exhilarated me. I hope that the decision made regarding this school is the best for the community, and trust in the county and the future for all to work out, but the tradition ingrained in the walls of this great building is too great to ignore. Countless footsteps, innumerable classes, and an unquantifiable number of sporting events took place on this ground, and for many years, these numbers were thought to, and hoped to grow for many years to come. As this dream becomes threatened, we have to not only think about what is right for the community, and what is right for our future generations, but also what is right for our history. We saw a similar event with the 9th Avenue School, which only partially survives as HMS, despite it's historic relevance for our community. Learn from our mistakes and allow this great and historic building to stand the test of time and trial and continue to serve it's community well.
