DEDICATED TO THE SANCTITY OF CHILD PERSONALITY. Established in 1901 built in 1926. The HHS building is now at risk for what it is going to be used for. The County Commissioners have stated the reason for a new school is they don't want students to spend 4 years in mobile villages (plans state 21 months in mobile villages). We as a community and taxpayers want clarification as to why "Option 6" was chosen. Please add your name to support us in requesting this information.

Please keep our beautiful , historic school! Three generations of my family attended HHS! In Europe they renovate and preserve history! There is a better plan, come on Comissioners , HHS is the gateway from the north to our beautiful historic Main Street! (Class of '77)
As a contractor, I know that sometimes remodeling is more difficult and more expensive than building new. However the old saying "they don't build things like they used to" should be used in this case And with the right contractor could be done in a reasonable time frame. Class of 1990
Elected officials are meant to represent the community that elected them. The community that is directly impacted by this decision seems to want the renovation of the school. Please explain yourselves and then do your jobs.
I am a second generation Bearcat and hope to make my daughter and son a third generation to attend HHS. The building is what I loved as much as the faculty and staff. There has been a lot of history in those walls, such as one of the first integrated classes to graduate in Hendersonville.
Even if 4 years in mobile units had to happen, that's small compared to the history, tradition, and everything else that should be preserved. Did not the junior high have to have mobile units during the new school renovation?
Aside from it's historical significance, superior architecture and excellent location, the classrooms in this building are large with spacious ceiling heights. They have ample natural light from large windows and are served by wide corridors. There are laboratories offices libraries and a large auditorium in the structure, all of which facilitate and support both learning and instruction as well as administrative functions of the school. Failure to utilize the facility for the benefit of the community is wasteful and irresponsible.
Both my daughter and granddaughter went to HHS.

There are a lot of educational uses for a building like this. Be creative. Once it is gone for other purposes it loses so much of it's character and value. Look at other towns - there are wonderful creative education, senior education, community ed possibilities.
