Save GVS Uniform!

This change of uniform seems unnecessary in our present austerity

I have only just joined the school but I have 3 children to have to buy for and I am a single parent so money is not to be wasted if they grow out of their uniform I will have to get the new uniform but I won’t be happy to replace good uniforms because someone decided to change the name. And why has the name been changed anyway!!

I’m concerned about the financial implications on families with low income and more than one child in the school not being able to hand down uniforms. Environmentally it’s a huge waste of old school uniforms, it’s frustrating not being able to use uniform that is still in good condition particularly those with logos on as they can’t reused or given to charity shops due to the logo. Just changing the jumper may have been understandable with the name change and new logo but changing the colour of the trousers, socks and the style of top just creates so much wasted school uniform and waste of money which could be spent on other things for my child.

This uniform change seems totally arbitrary. The most senseless reasoning given is that GVS is a feeder school to Oxted and they wear black. I feel it is a great shame that GVS cannot prepare the adults of tomorrow for such difficulties as a change of colour of trousers/skirts.

I agree with all the comments so far. Also, attention should be paid on how the children feel rather than changing their already acceptable appearance. A child will be able to concentrate far better in lessons if they feel comfortable. A tie and shirt will be uncomfortable and hot in the warmer months. Their ability to learn should be priority.

I was happy to accept the badge change, however a shirt and tie for early years is not practical and the colour black will look particularly scruffy in comparison to the grey. It shows every mark and fades quickly. Black uniform items are also harder to source. My mum took the opportunity to buy some school dresses for my daughter the week before this was announced. She has since returned the grey dresses but m&s didn't have any black alternatives available in store.

It’s a waste of money for parents and current school uniform

I have already emailed about not agreeing with this; and that was when I thought that only the jumper would change! Buttons and ties for Year 1 and white polos for Nursery are ill thought out, never mind the entire uniform change...We were not consulted as promised.

Is it going to make the kids learn any better. I think not. Just the head using her power again. No wonder so many teachers have felt the need to move on.

I too, like others was under the impression that it would just be the ‘badge’ garments that would be changed to accommodate the new name. This I accepted. I do not accept a complete uniform change. Black is a horrible choice for skirts and trousers. As other have said they will fade quickly. I wasn’t planning on buying new skirts for the next term and my child still fits her grey ones. This is completely unacceptable.

The change from grey to black is totally unnecessary and has no benefits. It will incur substantial financial loss to parents who have saved uniform for younger siblings, and who have already bought for the future. The cost of buying a full new uniform for multiple children will be expensive. Black is not a practical colour as will show the dirt more, will fade, and will show signs of wear more than grey. Shirts and ties are extremely inpractical and uncomfortable for young children, especially in the summer. Parents are important stake holders and they have not been consulted.

I don't want to buy uniform when my daughter has uniform she already fits in to. This is a waste of money. I also don't think that black is a practical colour as it will fade quickly

I’m against the change of uniform, I sent an email as soon as I got the email about the uniform change, and pointed out afew problems (no boys summer top) and I have had no response

I dont agree on changing trousers and skirts to black not a good colour for young children and it’s a colour which will fade quickly when washed, which means more money spent on buying more. children should also be able to wear polo t shirts for the summer.

I don’t agree with the new uniform change. It is an unnecessary expense. Shirts and Ties are too formal for children that young.

The financial implications of a whole new uniform is not acceptable. As far as I was aware as a parent that the changes where going to be kept as a minimal (logo items only) Now the new uniform list has been issued it seems that every part of the uniform has been changed which is not an acceptable and has a huge financial burden especially for parents like myself that has more than one child attending the school. I also do not agree with the changes to some of the uniform other than the financial aspect the requirement that all students will now be required to wear a tie and shirts, this is not a comfortable option for children and believe it’s inappropriate for children of a younger age to be required to do either of these options I would like you to take into account my view and many other parents views on the new uniform.
