Park somewhere else! Why not on the football or soccer field? Because this is the running field.

I am an Army journeyman who wrestled in Indiana as a State qualifier (New Castle, 2003). Carmel's track record of excellence stands out in a multidomain fashion and anything that supports their continued success is worthwhile. This piece of land should be retained in support of their tradition of success. Additionally, it should stand as a beacon to new Carmel students that care and concern for a cause ACTUALLY means something!

That loop has been around a lot longer than the early 2000's it just didn't have an official name. How sad that it's just going to become yet another slab of concrete. Carmel really needs to rethink some of their decisions.

Cross country is not a sport that requires a lot of financial investment by the school. This is the least you can do to support and honor one of your greatest teams, the swim team has a natatorium the football team has a stadium, we just want a field. Schools can use buses, of campus parking and carpooling. My current town, upper arlington, has only street parking for anyone by seniors, and no buses. They figure it out.

As a long time resident of Carmel and someone who grew up across the street from CHS, this course has been a source of pride and peace for me, from running in meets to walking and enjoying the stream. In my opinion, this would be a huge loss to the school and to the city.

My grandpa has been taking care of this land for decades and many legacies and stories and memories have been made on this course for many many people. Move the parking lot somewhere else.

This is such a special place for all cxc runners - it allowed us soft surface to run on (for injury prevention) and a small getaway right by the school. This space needs to be saved!

This would be extremely damaging to not only the history of Carmel’s accomplished cross country and track teams and their heritage, but also to the future of the programs for years to come. This area is vital to the training and is the home of past, present, and future runners, coaches, and fans alike.

You must consider the kids.
The removal of this running venue will injure our children!

The destruction of this monument and sacred land for the use of anything other than running purposes would be a vast detriment detriment to the community. This land must be stewarded as the most delicate of flowers. No better place to run and train for cross country, full stop, period. The value of the xc loop can not be underestimated. 1000m is a great distance to measure effort pace. Adult super vision. I’m already super disappointed part of the 5K course I worked so hard as an Eagle Scout project to restore and update has been DESTROYED for no reason. maintenance would have been worth every man hour. The petitioners here would gladly volunteered.
If Carmel High School, City of Carmel, and Hamilton County are actually seriously considering this. They should be ashamed of themselves. And need to be stepping and fighting just as hard to protect this venue facility.

I don’t think the existing lot gets full as I see when driving by.

The Carmel XC trails have been an essential ingredient of the overall success for Carmel Cross Country. I always felt that I was better prepared in the State Championship due to the hundreds of times I ran on the trails. Through the trails, I learned passing strategy, surges, timing, hill climbing. In addition it is far safer and better for Cross Country runners to be able to train on campus over varied (non asphalt) terrain for muscle development.
Thanks,
Karl (All State 1983, 1984, 1985)

Protecting this space for the benefit of passive and active recreation is necessary - especially for a cross-country course. Just as necessary is protecting this space for the benefit of our natural community as well. This area rests on the shoulders of Cool Creek - a creek that continues to burden the weight of increased development and therefore sediment and pollution. More parking space along and near its shores, where all of that dirt, grease, oil, and other bits of pollution will dump into this creek further polluting it and increasing flooding issues downstream. And then we expect our youth, Carmel students, to go off and make the world a better place when the Carmel high school institution continually demonstrates that having more parking space, more buildings, more things to consume and consume and consume is a better use of space than preserving it for the multi-valent, intrinsic, and deeper values that all of us aspire to. If parking space is needed, perhaps it would be best to encourage car pooling or more students riding a bus. I don't know. But for the love all things that are holy, can administrators and planners who sit in their high tower looking down on the world as if its a piece of paper to be drawn on be a little more creative than this?
