We are not prepared to let this historic building be demolished , or deteriorate further due to poor policy decisions by Moray Council . On behalf of the people of Elgin we wish you to reconsider prior decisions and discussions involving doing nothing and / or demolition. This simply cannot be allowed to happen.

The momentum behind this petition confirms that the people of Elgin refuse to watch Grant Lodge fall into ruin. This collective insistence provides a strong foundation as we prepare to engage the council regarding the future of the building.

Moray Council have a responsibility to the people of Elgin to maintain and restore a building for which they received amost half a million insurance payout after the fire ten years ago. Where has this fund gone ?
Successive councils have destroyed much of the fabric of old Elgin : Assembly Rooms : RBS building : Relief (Alexandra) Road : Northview ; Ruination of the centre of the town. They must not be allowed to continue with the wanton destruction of Grant Lodge.
Needs to be taken into community ownership like Covesea Lighthouse! I would like to see a good quality cafe and a museum telling the history of local people, sports achievements, leading industries etc PLUS a music venue supporting the Bothy Ballads Tradition!
I have super memories of working in Grant Lodge before the library moved to the soulless building next door. It is the perfect setting for the Registrars and Local Heritage Centre.
Grant Lodge should be an asset to Elgin and Moray not the millstone around Moray Councils neck that they have let it become. Utilised properly it could be a draw into Elgin, especially given the interest in family and local history these days.
Change use back to library and sell off the existing library. Or...Change to tourist information centre and use as showcase for whisky industry. Perhaps a room each for those distilleries willing to participate.

Sir George Cooper gifted Grant Lodge to the people of Elgin. If the Council don't feel able to honour the gift maybe those who wish to do so should be given the chance.
