This is a wonderful school that provides the very best for all students. The staff truly cares about the students and they are all so passionate about what they do.

This is completely detrimental to the children’s lives. Their lives and education have already been disrupted due to Covid-19. Please do not turn your backs on them now.

I am Lisa Randall, mother of Jason Randall, who went to Giant Steps School for MANY years. Lots of the staff know us. I am absolutely blown away by this decision. Just know that my husband Tim and I own Right at Home of Greater Fairfield County In-Home Care, serving seniors and adults (and some special needs) in most of Fairfield County, and surrounding areas. I mention our business because we employ MANY caregivers (mostly CNAs and HHAs). The people we hire is VERY similar to what Giant Steps hires for their paras (forgot what Giant Steps called them, but you know who I mean. We have many more caregivers than they have paras, so believe me, I understand all of the issues, benefits, problems, etc., more than you know. Right when Covid was beginning to break out, but before it really affecting our Tri-State NYC area so badly, I just knew it was going to be bad and immediately starting buying all of the PPE I could, wherever I could. I also starting reseaching and preparing materials to train my caregivers and office staff on how to be safe and operate in this Covid environment. I knew that it wasn't just a matter of telling them to wear a mask and gloves but, also, how to not only keep themselves and our clients and families safe and clean from Covid bacteria, but also how to not spread it to their families, friends, etc. I gave all of them reusable hand sanitizer dispensers and lots of travel packs of Chlorox type wipes,, and regularly resupplied them with these things. Then when Covid hit, most of my caregivers were in with many active Covid patients. But, my caregivers were okay, because they were taught what to do and how to handle it. When people tell me that can't do it, I say why not. I never said that. I figured it out and made it safe for everyone. There are ways to make things work. I totally get the population at Giant Steps, since Jason went there, but, I can tell you that although I do serve seniors and other adults (and some special needs clients) the

Giant Steps’ model for advocating and empowering individuals with autism to be as independent as possible is like no other I have ever experienced. I was fortunate to work at GS as a young OT in my dream job. I cried tears of joy when I was hired. I witnessed so much success, professionalism, compassion, dedication and selflessness during my years there. It is devastating to hear it will close and will no longer serve the community and families that rely so heavily on their services.

We need facilities like this for our families and friends with special needs.

Hope SYD’s special place can find a way!
