The news/rumours about Garlands Nightclub in Liverpool has even been topic of conversation in London- I heard about it through my sister, not through social media - I know so little about the situation, so I'm not sure how much belief to have in the bravado about it potentially facing closure or if that's just an over-blown story. People usually associate me with G Bar, but believe it or not, my clubbing experience started with Garlands- it was a good six months before I went to G Bar. I’ve never had the pleasure of DJing in Garlands (yet, who knows what can happen in the future?). Aged 14, (nearly 15 and 6ft1 and looked 18), I started going and summer of 1998 had my official awakening to house music and clubbing. I was there when it was under the radar, not trendy, just known by people in the know, Liverpool’s best kept secret, all black, a few rostra, some neon signs and it was rare to see a straight person in there (and of course, then everyone got onto how amazing it was and its become more mainstream but remains one of the friendliest venues I’ve ever been too and has the nicest vibe.) It’s been going for over 20 years right? It’s an institution. What really REALLY fucking bugs & infuriates me about the Police or whoever else orchestrates these raids is that, as usual, they’re 20 steps behind and chasing the wrong people! Go and deal with the thugs and reprobates who cause murder up in concert square, beaked up to fuck thinking they’re hard. What makes me laugh is Eberle Street has a bar/club on it, down at the bottom, (last time I checked) that attracts far more dodgy people to it and they should keep their eye on that! (No, I don’t mean the amazing G Bar) Garlands brings next to no trouble. To closure the place would be nothing short of a travesty. I can’t speak for absolutely every customer- but generally, it’s a nice club for nice people. To lose it would be unthinkable- whatever brainless fool is pupeteering this witch-hunt and boiling my piss at t
