please don't take away something else from Sudbury, we have little to offer as it is!

Without free parking the town centre businesses (and associated business rates) will dwindle away leaving just charity shops and little else - which would surely end up costing the council more than they will make from parking - the all day parking revenue raising exercise was hardly a success...

As a returning visiter (about 3/4 times a year) seeing relatives in the area i often pop into town just to walk round and get a cup of coffee. We often end up buying something from one of the shops or visiting the bank. If we had to pay we probably won't bother to come into town at all.

I realise that this is not currently on the agenda but the fact that Babergh attracts so many people due to its free parking - take this away and far fewer people will chose to shop in high streets in Babergh and revenue will decrease in a greater proportion than the amount raised in parking charges. I travel into Sudbury rather than Bury or Ipswich because of the free parking - introducing charges will undoubtedly be detrimental to Sudbury's financial future.

Free parking is one of the few things Sudbury has going for it. With empty stores and footfall in town declining, a charge for parking will not encourage people to shop local.
