Please let us have a dog run at Clermont Avenue! Fort Greene and Clinton Hill need a dog run. There are hundreds of dogs in the neighborhood and not every dog is able to take advantage of off-leash hours in Fort Greene Park. Other parts of the city have multiple, well-maintained dog runs. Ours does not. No dog owner I know wants their dog to bother people in the park or have their dog play on the sidewalk with other dogs when they are leashed. Dog runs are essential for keeping dogs happy and fit and safe. I think there is strong support for maintaining a dog run and taking responsibility for the space. There are other spaces, too: the gated area in the middle of Underwood Park, for example. Dogs should be a positive influence in the neighborhood. Dog runs are a fine way of making them so.

In an area with so many canine residents, the dog run provides a safe environment for dogs to run and play without fear of anyone running off. I am more than happy to contribute to any formal maintenance needed.

This dog run is vital for me and my 2 y/o pit bull. Because of her breed, it’s difficult to find a place during the day to let her play off leash. We have so enjoyed meeting our neighbors and other lively dogs in the run during the day. Without this dog run, we’re relegated to only being in FG park after 9pm, when it’s pitch black and you can only make out your neighbors by glow collars or iPhone flashlights. Please save the dog run!

We take our puppy Leo to this dog run twice a day. He loves going (literally pulls us the entire three blocks from our apartment) and has made such sweet dog friends. We have also made friends with the other dog parents, and feel so much more connected to our neighborhood and community as a result. It is a safe, enclosed space for him to run off-leash - he's not yet ready for Fort Greene off-leash hours. We're committed to do whatever we can to keeping the dog run clean and safe. We sincerely hope you'll consider re-opening it! Thank you.

This is the closest dog run to our house! We are relying on it as an area for our pup to have some off leash time! It’s hard to find a spot where our dog can safely interact with other dogs without us worrying about her running into a street!

This run became a necessary part of our daily routine! Given that my girls Laura and Greta can't do off-leash. With so many dogs in Fort Greene, it is imperative for dog owners to have a safe place to let their dogs play.

I am very willing to help maintain the dog run by coordinating clean up days, helping enforce rules, managing relationships with neighbors, etc. The dog run has helped my small dog build confidence and seems to play a nice role in connecting community members, which is good for the neighborhood!

My dog Chuckie looks forward to the dog run each day. This is a safe place for him to socialize with other pups and play fetch. Whenever we pass he pulls me to go in and is instantly disappointed when we can’t. Please support us in reopening this dog run!

We love this dog run! It is blocks away from where we love and we go every night. This run has been a great place for our pup (Franklin) to get outside and run freely off leash without having to take him somewhere 30 min away.

The neighborhood would greatly benefit if this dog run were reopened. It is the only enclosed dog run in Fort Greene and Clinton Hill and is desperately needed for the many pups that live here in order for them to safely play and exercise.

During the pandemic, this little stretch of Clermont felt like a lifeline. At a time when so many of us felt isolated, it provided a rare opportunity to say hello to a neighbor and feel like a part of the community. As things have opened up again, the community spirit and sense of neighborhood goodwill has only grown — even as the amount of doggos using the space has also grown! I and most of the people I’ve run into on a day-to-day basis are 100% committed to helping support the maintenance and upkeep of this space, in whatever form that takes.

The Clermont dog run has been so vital for our puppy to get her energy out after we are done with our workday. In only ~2 months, we have made many good friends (dogs & humans) and feel much more connected to our local community through this dog run. We are committed to maintaining and ensuring the safety of this dog run. We can't wait until it is open again and Cali can play with all her friends!

I would bring my dog for a run and play and my kids would go to the public playground. Right now none of us go to that public park any more. Very sad! I will volunteer time and resources to keep it clean and orderly! Please reopen!
