Typical! and getting rid of A level Film as well. I had a great experinece at UWE Cultural and Media degree, and have been teaching Film and Media for 18 years.

As a film lecturer at a very successful college I am astounded at the threat of such a creative and valued subject discipline. Through the study of film we explore and evaluate our culture, history and identity. Film gives a creative voice to those who often would not be heard, film provides a platform for the messages that can not be said, film gives a means of expression for those who have no voice. Film is as important as literature, providing a record of our lives for future generations.

As a former student at UWE I was lucky enough as a Cultural and Media Studies student to learn about Latin American Cinema and its many political messages, it was inspiring, informative and THE best way to learn about the history of a struggling region, its politics and diaspora - it beats any history class hands down.

I've just applied for UWE film and chosen it as my firm choice as the level of education surpasses all other universities. UWE looks like a great place and the course itself is fantastic!

This sounds like a very bad idea. Film and media studies is the fastest growing discipline in the humanities. To stay comptetitive any university would do well to invest in such a program rather than close it down. As for the eternal debate about humanities vs. STEM: It is useful to remind university administrations that humanities programs are extremely cost-efficient, and in universities with tuition the low-cost humanities students actually cross-finance the high-cost STEM students.

From the perspective of someone who works in a modern art museum, and who observes daily the pillar importance of film in the contemporary art world but also as a means of education into modern culture and history, it is incomprehensible to me that such a decision is being made.
