I loved Emory so much until I found out about them closing the arts department! I still love it but i really wish they would keep the department, I was planning on doing a minor or double major involving visual art and its disappointing to see the department disappear since Emory is such an amazing school.

My daughter has the option to attend Emory as the child of a University employee. We (and she) had been excited about this prospect---until now. I honestly can not imagine encouraging her to attend a college that does not have a visual arts program. This demonstrates a shocking lapse in someone's judgement, and a disregard for the importance of the visual arts in human history, not to mention a well rounded liberal arts education. What is really baffling, is that there seems to be an upswing in interest in the visual arts among the most talented young people (globally), while Emory is eliminating its arts department? I have a very different view of Emory now, and it isn't a good one.

I turned down FSU's Film School, which only accepts 20 students a year, because I thought that Emory would grant me more opportunities to explore both the Visual Arts and beyond. With the closing of the Visual Arts department, I am seriously regretting my decision. Please bring it back.

I graduated from Emory in 2012 with a double major in Economics and Mid-East studies, but one of my favorite courses of all time was Ceramics; if I had more time, I would have taken more classes offered by the Visual Arts dept.
I believe that closing the department is a horrible decision on the part of the university administration, and will have a detrimental effect on the "liberal arts" culture at Emory.
I heard rumors during my senior year that this was done in order to focus resources on the natural sciences / pre-med program, which, if true, will only exacerbate the damage to our liberal arts culture.
For the record, I now work as a computer engineer, but I still think giving up on the arts to focus on STEM will preclude for future students a valuable part of the college experience that I was lucky enough to have.

... Art especially digital art which is apart of visual art will always be a needed industry.. And I'm not sure y they can't support the art department.. They will lose tons of money from young artists like me who r looking for historical schools with an art degree.. I would have considered this school highly in my search for colleges

my son was just accepted to Emory. This breaks our heart to hear, and we are looking at other colleges where he can have all of the arts present in his undergrad experience. How can you have a liberal arts experience without being able to freely try all the arts to discover your path, all there is in the world, and who you are and what you might be good at? You will cripple your creative students. If you want to just be a pre-professional med, business, law school, then stop advertising and recruiting as a liberal arts school.
