We think it’s dreadful that you’re thinking about closing the Elstree recycle centre which is very popular amongst the residents you tried to do it before and there was loads of people objecting to it and she’s going to calls fly tipping we don’t agree with fly tipping but this is what is causing the fly tipping so keep the recycle centre open please it’s very popular and it’s always well used

I am against the Elstree site closing .Better to restrict the hours than close all together. The Council should have got a lower bidder to ensure the site is kept open. AmeyCespa start in October.Elstree does not show on their plans. Cespa is owned by Ferrovial Spain( http://www.ferrovial.com/) Ferrovial also own Ameyplc as well as Heathrow and Glasgow airports .They are one of Europes largest infrastructure providers. In 2010 AmeyCespa acquired the Dickerson Group. The acquisition included Dickerson’s U.K. waste management company Donarbon. Part of Ferrovial's end-to-end offering for local authorities in the U.K. Amey then bought Enterprise ,another council waste collect/recycling business. So effectively the council has got itself in corner as there is no one else to negotiate with. Shame on them, offering this farcical consultation. They have already signed with AmeyCespa and this consultation is a sham. Ferrovial have a history of selling on their businesses to private equity and hedge funds.

Back to square 1 as Herts County Council have again showed they have no brains or an understanding of the value of recycling plants. If they close Elstrtee i bet my life that there will be a big increase in fly tipping and smaller items in the black bags. Many of us have old TVs radios hoovers gas and Electric appliances we take to the recycling plant. A 10 minute drive at present or less compared to 45 minutes if we go to one of the other sites. Petrol is on the increase find a convenient field to dump unwanted items that will be the unfortunate case HERTS COUNTY THINK BEFORE OPENING MOUTH

My husband has been to the recycling depot in Potters Bar today, as the bin was full at Elstree. He was informed by the member of staff at Potters bar that Elstree was closing, and that Potters bar would only be open for 5 days a week with reduced hours. Obviously the decision has already been made!

It is absolutely vital that everyone also gives their views directly to HCC during their consultation process by using the link below (copy and paste if necessary). Signing this petition is absolutely not enough. But your specific opinions and useages and actual tonnage of waste recycled via the recycling centre will carry more weight (literally). Remember that HCC and the amenity contractors will be analysing the tonnage factor as evidence of useage and not signatures on a petition! USE IT OR LOSE IT!

My Personal Key Points against this closure of the Elstree Recycling Tip:
1) This amenity is a necessity and not a luxury.
2) It may be 20 mins in each direction plus time spent there and 2o mins return time - so for most people if traffic is good, which is a rarity, this will mean at least an hour's round trip.
3) Residents will not be prepared to spend one + hours travelling to recycle odds and ends and say nappies - these will almost certainly end up in blackbins. Thereby increasing landfill tonnage and tax costs.
4) Flytipping is already occuring and will almost certainly increase.
5) Residents will dump things in other people's bins and in community bins and this will create friction within our communities.
6) Residents will have to spend money securing their bins, as i have now had to spend money padlocking my three bins due to people dumping stuff in them.
7) Residents will also start dumping things in their driveways and front or back gardens until they have enough to warrant a trip to the tip. This will also provide great accomodation for rats and mice and any other pest etc. The town will start to look disgusting and run down.
8) We are in the process over the next 10+ years of having another few thousand homes being developed in the area. New home owners will have old and new things which will have elements needing recycling.
9) If things are now put in the black bins then they will just be dumped and won't be recycled and won't be of use to anyone.
10) Black bins will overflow especially for families. This will lead to environmental waste issues and hazards and likely increase in vermin and fox activity.
11) We actually need a bigger and better waste recycling facility with longer hours e.g. open until 7pm every night so homeowners and DIYers and gardeners can use the tip at a time that suits them e.g. at the end of their day, not 4pm which is rather too early.
12) Waste collection vehicles need to remove full containers after the site has
