To the Local Government Boundary Commission for England We the undersigned, opposed to the recommendation to abolish the name of East India and Lansbury Ward. Lead Petitioner: Cllr A M Ohid Ahmed, Deputy Mayor London Borough of Tower Hamlets and Lilian Collins, Chairman, poplar Bath Steering Group. We call upon the Boundary Commission for England not to go ahead with the proposed ward constituency changes that would destroy the local history. Background Information There are many reasons to sign this petition and oppose the boundary changes, some of the key reasons are highlighted below: George Lansbury fought hard to protect each other from the worst risks in life. He worked hard to protect the National Health Service, welfare state, and a vision of a fairer and more equal Britain. He served as Member of Parliament between 1910-1912 and 1922-1940. He was known as 'Lansbury's Lido' and gained the popular title "First Commissioner for Good Works”. George Lansbury was a legend and awarded a title "A great servant of the people." Attempt to delete his name from this history will set a bad example and will upset local community.
