Save the physio pool, please!

This pool is set up for disabilities, like for my brother who has cancer at 25urs old.

Save Dunedins Physio Pool! this government don't want people to get better!

My father (age 91) has become an avid and very grateful pool user since recently settling here in Dunedin. The benefits derived from his visits to the pool were quickly evident - increased mobility and confidence. The relatively better access and warmer temperatures compared to other pools made all the difference for him. Please save the pool for future generations. Don't let this be another short-sighted sacrificial act Dunedin.

I had a cycling accident on Highcliff Road in February 2012 and subsequently spent 5 months in Burwood Hospital with a spinal injury that has rendered me a T4 paraplegic. As swimming had been a part of my life for many years my physio Mark Shirley was keen to get me back into the water. The changing room facilities at Moana proved unworkable and for the past 18months I have been using the Physio Pool. The benefits both to my physical and mental wellbeing have been outstanding and my progress to date is very much due to the weekly (sometimes twice weekly) physio sessions at the pool. It has helped me immeasurably as I am sure it has helped others in the past and will hopefully continue to help rehabilitate others into the future.

I had a motorbike accident in 2011 and suffered serious damage to my leg . The physio pool was an integral part of my re-hab . The pool must stay. It's location is excellent with being in town and on the flat . I was overwhelmed by the number of people using the facility , and the wide range of rehab/physical needs which benefit from using the pool.

The council must want to save money to pay for the stadium! What a shame. My husband used this facility when he broke his legs and it was the most helpful thing for his rehabilitation. It will have serious impact to those who need them the most. We pay our rates to get this services. This is not right.

Such a necessity! ?spelling! My Dad goes 3x weekly, and is so beneficial.

The Physio Pool could well be considered one of Dunedin's best kept secrets - there are many people walking the streets of Dunedin who have benefited from this wonderful facility over the years, and you might never know it. Perhaps a wee extra glint of energy in their eyes, or a bit more of a spring in their step, but they're out there! The pool benefits so many people in so many ways... physical, mental and emotional well-being, community and social engagement, preventative and rehabilitative therapies. Whilst money obviously needs to be a factor in this decision, it would be wise to realise exactly what might be lost should the pool be closed. The Physio Pool is worth saving, not just because it is a historic building, but because of how people's lives are improved every day through having such a great facility right here in Dunedin!

My sister, who has cerebral palsy and is in a wheelchair, uses this pool once a week. This is an absolutely essential element in her ongoing wellbeing, as being able to float and have her limbs exercised in the warm water is the only activity which works to aid her circulation and deal with the growing stricture caused by her condition. Please don't close the physio pool! A pool with hoist, warmer temperature and therapeutic environment is so needed in Dunedin. I am deeply concerned about the impact its closure would have on those with disabilties who benefit so much from it, and could only consider it a discriminatory act.

I agree with Sharon Teavae (above). The physio pool is too valuable an asset for Dunedin and it's people to lose. My husband, myself and a disabled friend have been going to the pool on a twice weekly basis for quite a few years now and we have all benefited from using the pool and it's warm water. The pool is also located near the bus routes in Dunedin and is far more accessible to many people than Moana is, and for people who like to swim before or after work or during their lunch hour, the pool's location is ideal!

Alida McNulty- I've been a regular at the pool for many years now., visiting around 5 times a week. It has improved my quality of life as I suffer from arthritis, which is particularly bad in the winter months. recently I had both knees totally replaced(quite an ordeal) the pool visits before & after were invaluable. In that water is like heaven! There are people worse off than I was, who benefit more, So come on Everyone Don"t let them close the Doors! cause once closed they wont Open Again Ever!!!!
