Save Dragon's Den

For those of us who are teaching all day in Old Main, Dragon's Den is the only place to get a hot coffee or a snack. It's not convenient to go to the Moffett Center in the 20 mins between classes. Keep Dragon's Den open!

Food service has been available in Old Main since the building opened in 1922. To celebrate the 100th birthday, CAS plans to close the Dragon's Den with no replacement? That's embarrassing for CAS and the campus, and a sign of corporate bottom line taking precedence over convenience and tradition. The Dragon's Den was a very popular destination until the meal plans were changed for students in 2014-2015. If CAS wants to have more students visit the Dragon's Den, they should make positive changes and not close the location down. I don't have time to run elsewhere on campus for food, and this decision will make it more likely for me to bring my lunch and not visit other CAS locations. THe priorities of CAS do not serve the campus community, so I will take my money elsewhere and discourage others from visiting CAS establishments if they have the choice to do so.

I would like to KEEP the dragons Den. I work in Old Main every day. I go to the Den every day for coffee, freshly made salads every day. I enjoy seeing the workers and they know exactly how to make my salad without me even telling them how to do it. I will really miss seeing them. It will extremely inconvenient to have to leave campus to find lunch elsewhere, loose my parking spot. Or have to leave the building during the horrible weather months. This isn't a great solution for us workers or students. It is always busy when I go down there. Our workers love us and we LOVE THEM. please do not close the den! thank you for your time, Meghan

The Dragon's Den in an important component of the College's original building and contributes to both the identity and mission of ASC and SUNY Cortland. The space promotes social and scholarly gathering of students, faculty, and staff. Its closing will negatively impact the College community.

I am only on campus one day a week-in Old Main and this has been the only convenient place for breakfast/lunch. The staff are terrific and despite the erosion of hours and offerings in the 18 years I have been here are able to provide a very needed service. The customer count decline is directly correlated to the corporate erosion of services and hours.

This is honestly horrible! All of my classes have been in Old Main and I enjoy knowing that I could eat, relax and do work in between my classes without leaving the building. I think it's crucial that it stays because other students like me also experience having classes in only old main throughout the day. Taking this away is only putting students at a disadvantage when it comes to meal options on upper campus unless you count vending machines :/ lol

The Dragon's Den is conveniently located. Profit should not be the primary reason for closing it.

My office is in Old Main and I don't want to trek across campus if I need food. Please keep the Dragon's Den open.

This cafe is so important. There isn't time to go to Nubig to eat between classes. This would be a huge loss!

This is a wonder gathering place for students and faculty. I see no reason to eliminate it (especially without discussion).

The closure of this crucial dining service flies in the face of ASC's supposed 'commitment to its customers'. In fact, the ever-shrinking availability of food on the upper campus is a scandal. For years, we've been forced to endure the ASC monopoly that makes food more expensive, more scarce and less convenient for students, staff and faculty. The Dragon's Den has gone from a full-service facility (with an additional outpost in the Colloquium) to what is little more than a gas station-style grouping of refrigerator cases. It's hours, moreover, guarantee that many of us never get a chance to eat! It's no wonder that the Dragon Den isn't financially profitable as it once was- it's rarely open. In none of this were any of the 'customers' ever given a choice. So much for 'compassion' and 'integrity'.

Please, reconsider this matter. It is truly important to those of us on campus who spend our day in Old Main. Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Closing the Dragon's Den will needlessly impose inconvenience on students, staff, and faculty in a large and crowded building, hurt its employees, and lower the quality of life on upper campus. This would be a strictly corporate decision, driven purely by numbers, and a terrible one.

Please consider the students, and the new faculty that we are hiring. In addition, the planned larger food court planned for MF did not happen. Please think of the greater good. Thank you

I love Dragon's Den! It's convenience saves me a lot of time and the employees brighten my day!

I work here in Old Main and am asking you to please reconsider as I have used this facility many times and find it to be extremely helpful to have as a dining choice on campus. Especially during cold weather when it is unpleasant to go outside at lunch. Thank you.

Dragon’s Den cafe is an important dining place on campus for students and faculty. During pandemic it has not been used as much as prepandemic but we expect to use it much more when it returns back to full hours after the pandemic. It is disheartening to hear about the decision
