I don't know of any surviving horse-drawn tram anywhere else in the world. To emasculate yours would be nothing short of a tragedy.

As a regular visitor from Australia to the TT one of the most enduring memories of the IOM is the Steam Railway,Electric Railway and in Douglas it is the sight of those most magnificent horses pulling a past means of transport no longer available around the world in this state of authenticity. Wake up the Govt of the IOM there is more to governing than taking away those assets that hard working people of the past have left as legacy for this and future generations. Shame on you if you proceed.

The Isle of Man's railways and tramways are unique and an astonishing survival. I cannot understand why anyone with power or influence on the Island would support any scheme that would diminish any part of them.

It's absolutely terrible that such a hertigage unique to the Island should be removed - very sad. I grew up my childhood holidays each summer in the Isle of Man and the horsetrams were such a lovely way to travel up and down the length of Douglas - dont destroy your history!

Leave a valuable tourist attraction alone. We visited the Isle of Man last year specifically to ride on the horse trams.

It is very important to retain transport heritage, such as the Horse Tramway, which is a major tourist attraction and needs to be viewed as such by politicians.

This proposal to downgrade and shorten the horse tramway is completely at odds with its role as a unique historic attraction. The contrast in approach could not be greater than with San Francisco's cable tramway, which is designated by the US Government as a national monument.

I am in contact with many transport enthusiasts worldwide, all of whom hold the Isle of Man in the greatest regard for its unique transport heritage. Sadly, that position - and the likelihood of their return visits - will be greatly jeopardised if the horse tramway is treated with such total disregard for its special place in worldwide transport heritage. Surely alternative proposals could be devised which would retain and enhance this unique attraction, not effectively destroy it?

Have visited the IOM every year except two (and one of these was the foot and mouth year) since 1992 and have used the horse tramway and visited the horse retirement home an attraction in itself. Nowhere else in the UK, IOM and CI can you see this. Regarding the traffic objection and slowing the cars and buses down, surely it is safer that the traffic is slowed down along the prom road and to get to Onchan and beyond you don't have to use the prom route anyway. Putting the trams on the prom itself especially on the narrower section from Villa marina to Derby Castle is surely more of a problem as it will reduce much of the room for the locals who regularly run, jog and dog walk ??

The tramway should be retained as an asset of world heritage significance and not cut back and reduced to a fairground ride from nowhere to nowhere. The Island has an asset of world heritage value yet the Government are obsessed with destroying it regardless of world opinion.

Take a tip from when the electric railway was closed from Laxey to Ramsey. They found that the passenger trade dropped off and the full length had to be reopened.

I am amazed that the Manx government fail to understand what a valuable asset the tramway is to the Island. The interchange at Derby Castle with the MER additionally unique. visitors come form far and wide to sample these delights and bring much needed capital to local businesses. I urge the Tynwald to reject the Infrastructure proposal.
