Arlington cannot afford to lose tree canopy. The rate of development both commercial and residential has impacted greatly on the comfort, beauty and health of the county. I first moved to Arlington in 1992 and I often myself shocked at the visual change and amount of concrete/pavement that has arrived since then.
Stronger tree replacement and protection provisions must be given to builders, developers and the county board.

The limits of human engineering on the last "restoration" are evident to anyone who has slogged through the mud pits or watched the replacement trees die.

Please save the trees of Donaldson Run's park. They are nature's treasures. This project should be thoroughly reviewed with citizen participation.

Unnecessary loss of 81 trees on beautiful public land? No! One has to also consider the continuous loss of trees and pouring of concrete in the neighborhood. Come to nearby North Vernon Street where hillsides with dozens of mature oak trees have been bulldozed off on private lots by developers and Arlington County can't stop it.

We're allowing Arlington to be overwhelmed by rapid and massive population growth, which is then used as a reason to pour more concrete. In the midst of this, County governance processes are set up to minimize the voices of those who are trying to preserve our Arlington urban forest and parks and to favor those who want to pour concrete, install artificial turf, and keep sports fields in quiet residential neighborhoods lit up late into the night.
We better watch out. As Joni Mitchell might sing about us: They paved paradise, put up a parking lot. You don't know what you've got til it's gone.
Are we really environmentalists? Or do we just like to pretend that we are?

The Board needs to oversee a reform of public processes in the County. "The Arlington way" ain't what it used to be!

Let's keep Donaldson Run a natural site with plenty of leafy protection for wildlife. We don't need more over-the-top "engineered" parks in Arlington!
