Protect the Future of Derry's Music Department

Save the music program!!! Its one of the best around. The kids work hard to make it what it is, along with the teachers.

I can't imagine the imapact the loss of this program would create for all future Derry Area students. It is a vital component of student's creativity.

The music department at Derry really shaped my future. Please keep it fully staffed. Thanks.

I didn’t like Derry area school district at all... but one thing I really looked forward to was going to chorus, it’s what made my days better

Kids need music in their lives to become more well rounded individuals. It helps them express their thoughts and feelings and provide an outlet in stressful situations.

SAVE THE ARTS! Sounds to me like a misguided act by Betsy Devos! All one has to do is read the literature about how the arts contribute to grads being prepared and well rounded citizens. For example, consider how studies strongly show that music positively affects mathematics learning. And for many for many students like me, it was a safe place, where one can express oneself and find ones self! As a college academic dean in higher education, I can attest to how we struggle with low enrollments in the arts... because corporate America misses the advantages of liberal arts education!

As an alumni of the music department, I would hate to see yet another music position eliminated and see another teacher stretched way too thin trying to provide for all of the students wanting to learn music. There’s so many music teachers anxious for opportunities to fill children’s and students lives with music and Derry should be proud of its prior musical reputation and continue to support the arts.

Music is Life. Music is part of every subject and part of everyone’s life. It teaches math and team work among a district students and between districts. We need to improve our our children’s lives and our communities.

Figure it out school board...kids need music! Make it happen.

The music program is one of the only reasons I made it through high school. With all the bad in the world right now our kids need music and art more than ever. It saddens me more than I can put into words that this is even being considered.

Derry's music department was the determining factor in our daughter's choice to continue her music education and become a music therapist. Music is so vital in many ways as a healing therapy for autism, Alzheimer's disease, brain trauma and many other neurological problems. The cutback in the music department would be a disservice to our student population.

The music department was always a special thing for me when i was goin to derry area school district. I always participated in choir & womens chorus. It'd be important for others to have it within their schedule also.

Derry's Music Department matters just as much as any other participating program/department in the School District

Derry has ALWAYS had a great music department and it would be a travesty to see it go. Ruby Markel and Delfino Calvo would start spinning in their graves if this would happen.
