Both of our daughters had magnificent musical experiences in their DASD years. Both were in the band, musicals, and chorus. Both are now raising their children to love music as much as they did/do.

DASD has a long proud history of musical excellence ,it is important to provide the support to maintain that tradition..

I have been in the derry music program for all my life wanting to sing and play band and now with being in ensemble I don’t see no reason to downsize

Graduated in 76 and still singing with the Westmoreland Choral Society. Without the music program, I don't think I would be able to experience the joy that music has

What a shame!! Think about what music builds in children: Confidence, Discipline, Motivation, many Health Benefits, Reading & Listening skills, Concentration and many more. It also provides therapy to help with stress and depression. Think about how this short sighted decision may be affecting the lives of students for the long term.

Don’t take away the music program; it’s important to those who struggle to express themselves.

I was a part of this when I was growing up and others should have the same opportunity.

This is a complete disgrace to the school. Both my daughters love the program. Every concert fills the whole auditorium and everybody enjoys it.

The kids love this program and need it. It should be encouraged at every chance.

Thanks for putting together this petition. I see a lot of comments by graduates of Derry. I am a ‘79 graduate and a music teacher. Isn’t it interesting how many students of the Derry music department are now professional musicians. That speaks to the influence of the teachers doesn’t it? So many comments refer to the sense of family and life long love of music that have been brought about by Derry’s music program. Students grow up to be the audience of the arts in the community don’t they? Let’s think about this. All eyes are on Derry School district because of the winning football team. We’re proud of this. We are also proud of our Music! We can have both. Use some creative sense and keep the positions filled not eliminated.

Class of 1979. My son has played trumpet in band since Grandview. We cannot let this happen to our students. Would it help to attend a school board meeting?

I went to this school. The music department is where I always was. It makes me sad to think that a school that I once thought was great is now caring more about athletes than music. Music is a big part of our history besides wars and presidents!

Music education in high schools is the most important subject that a student can learn. It’s a real shame that it has to be downsized like that.

I've worked in this district since 2005. I'm married to a music alumni. Before I met him, I've met a lot of excellent musicians in my musical endeavors who came from Derry.

Music is a lifetime enrichment. Sports are fine, but they will not be something everyone can do. Music is for all.

I don’t believe that any cuts should be made in the music dept. It plays a vital part in participation and growth for our youth.
