The city of Danville can not afford to reduce the staffing of the already understaffed fire department. It is outrageous to even think this can do any good for the city. Apparently the mayor thinks of his citizens lives as dollar bills, by reducing the numbers of firemen and taking an engine company out of service numerous citizens are left unprotected and lives at risk. How about we start at the top and take money out of the mayors salary. Trust Mayor, you can not afford to cut your fire department staffing. To my brothers on DFD, stay strong and know that all of your brothers are standing by your side in this fight.

If budget cuts are to be made, they should not take place with the dismissal of our service men and women; especially in an area such as Danville, IL.

Cuts to the fire deparment will only hurt the community they swore to protect.

This is a matter of public safety!! Plus the fact that you can't expect to attract new businesses to a town with too little fire protection. Please stop targeting a department that is crucial to our safety.

I don't understand why it is going to take getting someone seriously hurt or killed before he gets it through his freshly permed head that he can't close a station and lay off firefighters in this city. Sure their are cities larger than Danville working well with a volunteer/ paid on call dept but they aren't fighting nearly the amount of fire Danville does! When a city is ranked next to Chicago and east St. Louis for most structure fires, I don't think It would be in the " best interest of the city" to cut the dept at all. If anything they need to expand and hire more ppl!

There are other places in the budget that could take a funding cut before public services. The fire department is necessary in emergency situations. Other things are not. Let's cut funding for unnessacary road construction & landscaping, or cut pay to officials who do not do much. Let's start somewhere that could not potintaily take someone's life.

Shutting down a station and getting rid of 10-15 firefighters would put citizens and our own firefighters at risk for harm! It's sad that he we would even consider laying off Danville Heros. Save Local firefighters.

This is all a bunch of crap danville was in the top 3 for most structural fires in the state of illinois. What you should be doin is giving this already decreased department more to work with.

How come every time budget is in trouble The Fire Department is looked at to save the day. It has been my professional experience that those fires don't put themselves out. Come on Mayor do what I elected you to do and lead this City.
