Don’t cut the arts. They are as important as sports are to our students.

We are asking the BOE to consider the best practices of like schools when making decisions regarding the music program. We are in a position now to strategically make changes with full consideration of best practices and impacts. Let's give our outstanding music programs the resources they need to continue on the path of excellence.

Kids can't survive without music

Music is so much more important to education than many realize. It helps with math skills, learning foreign languages, analytical thinking, and on and on. In addition many of the students at our schools are future music majors and professionals. They should be given as much priority as athletes. You cannot cut all the assistant coaches and expect the team to thrive. Music needs its “assistant coaches” as much as any sport. And cutting AP music Theory has a direct affect on music students and families that no other Co-curricular is having to suffer. I am very disappointed that any of these cuts are being considered.

The men and woman who built up this department have done an amazing job. Central needs this program in order to continue being a well diversified school.

Our music program at both South & Central is flourishing. Support these fine arts students: bring back the accompanist. Bring back the section leaders. Bring back the AP music theory class. Support the fine arts in D86.

Music deserves as much attention - or more - than athletics. You have your referendum. Reinstate these professionals.

I agree with this petition. Cuts in other things like bass fishing and wrestling would be more sensible than cutting music, which is vital for maintaining high rankings as involvement in music is proven to increase grades and test scores.

Love and value our music program

An investment in the Accompanists and Para-Professionals improves the music program - but also raises the bar in academic achievement. I know lots of kids who received Music Scholarships - including my daughter. Without maintaining the fine music program and all it offers, I fear future students (including my son) won't be able to compete for future music scholarships.

Music is very important to the students. Our 3 children graduated from South and we’re all in the music program. Our oldest is a band director and the youngest is a vocal performance major.

It’s so vital to have an outstanding music program in a High School. Let’s find a way to keep supporting our kids.
