Save Cwmaman community signal box for the community

Our last link to our industrial past and the last signal box of it's type in Wales
The Glanamman Signal Box in Station Road was built by Great Western Railway in 1901
to replace the original. It is a unique and attractive structure, the last of this type (7b) in this
country. It features a distinctive undercroft, hipped roof and a three over two pane
arrangement built in red brick with blue bricks for corner decoration, a GWR trademark.
The Signal Box represents the last vestige of Amman Valley’s rich industrial heritage. It is an
iconic building of both architectural and historical significance which deserves to be
preserved for future generations.
The council had surveyed the local community, and its findings revealed a resounding 95%
of its respondents wished to retain the Signal Box for community use. To this end Amman
Valley Railway Society made a financial proposal to the council which was rejected without
any discussion with the charity.
We, the undersigned, petition Cwmaman Town Council for the Signal Box, a community
asset, to be retained by the council for the benefit of, and use by, the local community.
