Invaluable service that mainstream schools just can't offer to the kids involved. Closure would be unfair to them, and whatever happened to all children have a right to a fair education?

Hi, my name is Hope Webb, and I'm a reporter at Northsound News. I spoke to Mum Gail Geddes on this issue back in May 2015, but I now lost my contact for her. I would love to get back in touch with her, now that Aberdeenshire Council have reversed their decision to close Crimmond and Kellands School. Thank you to everyone who signed this petition. Unfortunately it made absolutely no differance. The decision had already been made despite the fact that the council still can't answer a question direct. How are you going to provide the support to every child? Apparently they have highly trained staff able to deal with every child's need in one place. If your child is struggling you just need to ask and the support is there. So ask and you will get! Good luck with that

I'm signing because I believe this decision is based on purely financial reasons, and no child should be disadvantaged simply to save money.

Education for all is a fundamental foundation for our society. This centre benefits so many, it's loss would be a loss to our future society.

My son was in the language unit for primary 2 at Kellands school. Had he not benefitted from the hard work of the teachers he would not be thriving in mainstream. The units aren't just about dyslexia but a whole range of language disorders which without theses units can impact not just on academic but personal and social abilities. Please don't let the units be closed for shortsighted financial reasons.

Please show leadership, the kind of leadership the world needs now. Show wisdom something beyond, the cultural level we seemed to have arrived at, of the simple rule, does it make money in the short term. Yes/no. A robot can make that choice. You are leaders, that can access your best, and inspire trust in others. Please demonstrate your wise leadership, and dont c;lose the units.Thankyou

My daughter is dyslexic. She is now 26 years old. Without the support of units like this and others she would not have achieved an NQ and 2 HNDs. These units are not a luxury? They are a must so that children and young people can have the opportunities and continuing support my daughter had.

I was a formal student of the unit at market place then it got moved to kellands primary school. I am 31 years old and don't know were I would be today with out the help of the unit to help me read and write to give me the life skills to get a decent job and be Able to contribute to the economy

It is disgraceful that these units are not being shut down because of any issues with them, but simply because the council wants to make sfl resources the same across all areas and cannot afford to have enough of these units for everyone. Specific sfl units were set up responding to the specific needs of the area and closing them would be a disservice to their communities. Replacing them with outreach programmes will be far less effective and more stressful for staff involved. I have had a huge amount of professional involvement with Crimond Dyslexia Unit and cannot speak more highly of the way in which it helps pupils not only become more able to tackle aspects of numeracy and literacy that they previously thought impossible, but the difference it makes to their self confidence and sense of belonging is astounding. Please do not make children in certain areas of need suffer simply because of budgets and a want to keep resources the same across the board.
