Dear Colleagues, Alumni, and Friends,

I am calling upon you to take action to stop an atrocious act in its tracks. As you may already know, the Dean of the Medical School has decided to take away the guaranteed matriculation into medical school. As a graduate of this program, I know that this program was instrumental to my success in medical school. If it were not for the post-baccalaureate program, I would not be a physician today. The same could be said for many of my colleagues.

There is overwhelming statistics that the program is self-sustaining, the program has a high graduation rate from medical school, but most importantly, post-baccalaureate students are leaders of student organizations, are students that volunteer their time and energy to better the Creighton community, and are pursing specialities that give back to society; the very qualities that align with Creighton's mission statement. The post-baccalaureate program attracts this type of personality and continues to cultivate these attitudes and principles.

The post-baccalaureate program has been in operation for the past 40 years, graduating more than 400 successful physicians since its inception. The guaranteed matriculation upon completion of the post-baccalaureate program has been in place since the year 2000. The guarantee of matriculation is only granted if the student meets GPA and MCAT requirements, agreed upon between the medical school and post-baccalaureate program. The success of its students before and during professional school is at the heart of this program, and the HS-MACA staff work hard to ensure the continued achievement of its students.

Let our voice as alumni and friends of the post-baccalaureate program be united and heard loud and clear that we DO NOT want this policy change to an already successful program. If we allow this policy change to happen, there is no telling what other egregious acts will follow; who knows if there are plans to cancel this program all together? I urge you to take action, sign this petition to let the administration know that this wonderful program MUST continue, and if there are changes to be made to the post-baccalaureate program, then Creighton University School of Medicine should work with the program's leaders and alumni before any revision should be considered.

Sincerely,

Sandy Lieu, MD
