Children under five should not be forced to travel a distance for nursery education simply because they live in a rural area. This nursery is a vital part of the community, supporting children’s development and local families. Rural families deserve equal access to early years education — not fewer services.

I appreciate the financial constraints the council faces. But closing this nursery will save relatively little money - while creating large consequences for the rural community that the nursery is such a fine part of. And once it’s gone, it’s gone?

A school is the lifeblood of a community, and particularly in a rural setting. This policy does not pay cognisance to the enrolment sessions that continue throughout the year as children reach eligible age. A number of pupils already face a 20 minute+ journey to Cortachy; the alternatives require a significantly longer journey and therefore significantly longer school day for very young children. Finally, it is an amazing educational setting which deserves support.

This nursery is vital for keeping the schools and wider community thriving. Short-term fluctuations in numbers should not outweigh the long-term benefit to our local families and children. It’s not just the children now who will be disadvantaged, the whole future of the community and school is.

The threat of closure to such an excellent nursery is truly heartbreaking. Cutting vital services is never the answer, especially when decisions have been made without due process. Angus Council, do better!

The school has strategies in place to compensate more than adequately for any alleged mitigating circumstances. Pupils in this area above all need consistency and continuity in their education

The council's actions have been a disgrace. The loss of this incredible, nurturing nursery would be a disaster to the folk of the Glens and beyond.

As a parent who has 3 children who went through cortachy Nursery it’s a crime to not have this facility available to families. I would not have considered driving my children to the nearest town to a large nursery. Whilst I do consider if to have been a privilege, I stay in the country and think a country nursery should be available to families. Not all children thrive in large settings.
